Is there a difference in the weight between an 86 Gn and 87 GN? What are the listed stock weights for hard top 86 and 87, t-top 86 and 87, and astro roof 86 and 87? Someone is tryin to say their boyfriend wants an 87 cause they weigh less. Options play a roll in the weight.

In general, an '86 GN weighs less than an '87 GN due to the aluminum bumper suports and higher likelyhood of less options.

An '86 or '87 T would weigh about 100 lbs less than an '87 GN with similar options (AL bumper supports, wheels, spoiler and emblems)

Low option T's generally weigh around 3400lbs, high options GN's generally weigh around 3550lbs, more or less depending on the amount of gas :) .

My car weighed in at 3,656 with me and 1/8 tank of gas without one thing removed (spare, jack, mats, etc.). I weigh about 240, and a few gallons of gas adds in ~30lbs. I'd say my car is under 3,400 dry.
'87 hardtop T with a bench seat, aluminum bumper supports (from factory), power windows, cruise, non-cassette concert sound and rear defroster.

Yes options play a HUGE role. My FULLY optioned (including astroroof) 86 GN comes in at a svelt 3700# dry.

My bruiser is 3720bs with my fat ass in it and a half a tank of C-16, yup it has T-Tops and everything else except a pwr seat, but it does have the 38 kilo lighted vanity mirror for the wife :)

My 1st GN (87) wieghed in at 3201 dry,I swear, the car had no power options exept for digital dash and CCII.

You mean without a driver? That seems heavy for an '86.

My 86 GN has T-tops, concert sound, electronic climate control, rear defrost, cruise, twilight sentinal, floor mats, undercoat and about everything else you could check off (the window sticker was right a $19K and the original owner paid $21K) and it weighs less than 3600lbs.

Did somebody take off the AL bumper supports?

Hummmm...maybe the Astroroof weighs 100 lbs more than T-tops.

My fully loaded 86 GN with every option but T-Tops and sunroof and with Weld drag wheels and slicks, 6 gallons of fuel, no spare or jack and my skinny 155 pound ass rolls across the scales at 3360.

Thanks, Eric Fisher

Yes, without driver, and it's been double checked
I don't know how much more the astroroof weighs than the T-Tops, I know it's significantly more, but don't know how much.

I even have the aluminum bumper supports and aluminum rear drums as it's supposed to have.

But every option Buick made, litterally. Except block heater. The original window sticker on mine (I'm the one and only owner) was just over $20.9K MSRP.
Put me in it, and the car goes well over 3880!!

Might explain my times ;)

WIth me in the car at 160lbs my car weighs right at 3700lbs.I have a 86 with the usual options,no t-tops or astro roof but with the spare and a bazooka tube in the trunk.I have weld draglites and bfg's.I was kinda suprised it weighed that much

I really dont understand how an Astroroof could weigh more then T-tops. T-tops are 2 hatches of solid glass (that are pretty heavy) and the metal housing on the sides where the hatch-locks are enclosed. I think the locking mechanism is steel too. Astroroof is just that one plate of glass, with just the motor and tracks. How much could that assembly weigh?

I havent weighed my car yet, but its an '87, pretty much loaded, and I'm sure its heavy as hell. I'll still have to take it to the scales. Prev (original) owner and I guessed around 3700 lbs, more or less. Possibly w/o driver. It's a t-top car, still has stock GN rims on it, and spare tire & jack in the trunk. I'll weigh it as is, then every time I take something out of it for weight reduction, I'll put it on the bathroom scale and subtract from the total.

Actually, I may need that spare & jack over the rear wheels for extra traction.

I was surprised how light my car is. With a 1/2 tank of gas, everthing else in spare, jack, floor mats, etc.., it weighed 3615 with me. So it is about 3460 without me. I had always heard that these were real heavy cars so I was surprised.:D If I wanted I bet I could get it into the high 3300's fairly easy.

Forgot to put that it is a solid roof, and I have prostars.

I've owned a t-top car but never a Regal with a astroroof. According to the GM parts books the Regals and Rivieras used the same astroroof assembly and I have had the astroroof out of my Riv to replace the weatherstrip. Them roofs are one heavy SOB's. If I had to guess I would say the astroroof weighs about 75-80 pounds compared to what? About 20-25 pounds for the t-tops? IMO the astroroof has a 50 pound penalty over t-tops and probally 100 over a solid roof car.

thats good to know! i always thought the t-top cars were the fattest bricks of the group. i dont feel so bad now that i know the astro roofs take(and eat) the cake! both my cars have t-tops and love um both in the summer!

You're kidding right? I guess you've never seen what those astro roof assemblies are actually made of! They're incredibly heavy! For one thing, the roofs are reenforced to hold it all up in there, the whole assembly runs from left to right and from front to back. Fills up the entire roof area!! Just the glass panel alone with the little parts attached is over 25#'s. Now through in all the rest of the mechanism that's over 4' long and as wide as the roof (rails and all the mechanicals) My guess is, from the last one I "hefted" is that the whole assembly comes in at just over 80#'s, possibly more. One person can't get it in or out whole.
