What would be considered "high miles" for these cars? I bought a mustang with 120k and put 200 shot of nitrious on it and now I have a supercharger on it and it still has the same short block with 137k miles, and it still runs great. If I was to buy a car with 100k (I know that all cars if taken care of will last forever, but) would it be considered "high miles?" And what would you guys consider to be a high milage car.

Well, like you said it's how it was taken care of. I would imagine that over 100k on these things is still fine all things considered...

I'm no expert on this but I bought mine with 97,000. To me that was low Miles, for a 1984. I think its all in how its been kept. Allthough I woulnd mind owning one with 12,000 miles!!! Good luck.... Will this be your first turbo buick? Let us know what you get!

Like it's been said, it's all in how it's been taken care of. I would feel safer buying a bone stock car than a modded one. I also trust a factory high mileage motor more than a rebuilt low milege motor. Mine had 230,000 miles before it let go and that was only because someone resealed the oil pan and left the freaking can of silicone inside. The only thing you would probably want to do is change the timing chain and gears, and valve springs on a high mileage motor.

To get a quick indication that there's not something majorly wrong, pull the oil fill tube and make sure there's not a ton of blowby.

100,000 miles isn't that much for one of these. I remember a thread where there were a lot of people that had been in the 11s for years with over 100,000 miles.

What would it show? Smoke?

If you have "blow-by" there will be alot of air puffing out of the tube. That's a sign of compression leaking into the block. (compression "blowing by" the rings)
