Hey

I have finally fixed my sputtering problem when I get into the gas. My maximum Boost is somewhere between 20-25 now that I got it fixed. I just want to know what is a good safe psi for both normal driving and when I go to the track. It has a stock turbo, 205 cam, power pullies, Street 93 chip. I dont need head gaskets going out LOL

At the boost level you're running with that 93 octane, you'll likely be doing head gaskets in very short order. They've likely suffered some latent damage already.

With 93 octane, you'll want to keep the boost below 20#!!!! Unless you're running a low timing chip. Safest to start at around 16# and sneak up on your best boost setting which yields little to no knock retard.

Get a scantool and take the guesswork out. If you're low on the dough right now a knock gauge would be alot cheaper, but not as accurate. You'll definitely need one of the two to tune with.

Why would a knock gauge be less accurate than a scan tool? Both are using the same sensor for input? Not questioning your advice, I'm just curious. At the track Friday night my knock gauge shot up to the yellow on the hard 1-2 shift. Looking at DirectScan, though, only showed 1 knock count.

You don't know how much knock you are actually getting with a knock detector; with a scan tool you do. I like knowing how much knock is occuring, not just that it is occuring. :)

Do you have an engine tie down or poly motor mount? I used to get 1-2 yellows on at shift also until I put in a tie down, now I get 1 green.

   On today's pump 13 to 15 lbs. of boost is all I would try to get away with on the street unless you have some type of scan tool. PS: like the guy said you may have already done some bad stuff to your head gaskets but wait till they blow; who knows they may last a long time.:D

I have both poly mounts but my trans mount is mushy like a sponge. Have a new one, but it's way down on the list of things to fix on the car.

Hey

Thanks for the reply's, I have only had the road on the road 2 times since I fixed the sputtering and I only hit 20psi one time for a split second. But I have adjusted it to around 15-16 psi.
