Can anyone tell me a good way to get my car into the 13's I have no idea what to do this is my first GN I have ever owned and I love it so far. I went from a 1995 Impala SS which I did everything to it I could and sold it to buy this car plus I have alot of xtra cash lying around now. I just want to know the safest way for 13's that everyone does the car is bone stock with 60k miles. Its a 84 BTW

First thing is a fuel pump and adjustable regulator. With some good tuning, good gas, and good traction, the bare minimum would be up the boost to 20psi, race chip, K&N, and a drag radial or slick. I've seen it done with only those mods by my dad's hotair.

A different way is how I did it. Spearco front mount intercooler, chip, and filter, and downpipe. This got me a 13.9@101mph with only 14psi boost.

To monitor what's going on and not hurt your engine, a scantool is a must.

ok sounds like a good start what is a good chip to get and where do I go for one, same thing with intercooler, and downpipe sorry for sounding dumb but im very new at turbo cars.

it seems to come easier to some than others, my car won't trap more than 97.8 on the stock turbo, probably my tune ? took me quite a bit to get 13s but well worth it, cars real fun to drive.

Well, my recipe for 13s is pretty much my signature, get a fuel pump, hotwire kit, adj fuel pressure regulator, a better intake, exhaust, bigger downpipe, headers, convert the computer to the 87 style for better chip selection (have to convert the MAF as well, go with the translator setup), convert the coil pack to 87 style (dont have to do this, but its good in the long run), and turn the boost up. I would also strongly suggest an alky kit from Razor, they are awesome....and maybe a ta33 turbo if you really wanna spice things up ;)

Ok, everyone talks about these, so i'll give ya a few names to look up as per where to buy them, and a basic price:

adjustable fuel pressure regulator: billet: Kirbans($105), stock appearing: Kenne Bell/accufab (95)

Fuel pump: Racetronix WALBRO 340, with hotwire kit ($169.99)

K&N 9" Air filter ($60)

take one screen out of maf sensor (free!!!)

Computer chip: JIM TESTA (turbojim ont his board) is more than capable to burn a Hot Air chip, Kenne Bell sells a "93" octane hot air chip (between $30-$50)

Adjustable Wastegate: Kenne Bell ($60?ish)

Posi lock rear, eaton ($90-$120)

Now, it is absolutely imperative to monitor that car in order to tune it. Before you go buy turbolink or a scantool, get the proper guages: You need a Boost guage (30lb), you need oil pressure, water temp, knock guage, and definately a better tach!!!

Good luck!

Thanx alot finally someone gave me some good informative answers. Thanx alot would you mind if I emailed you in the future for some help this whole turbo concept is all new to me and you sound like you know what your talking about.

i am sure all of us would be glad to help you out anytime you ask....just click on the little red box that say's email!!!
I am in the midst of buying parts and preparing for an 11 sec setup, so, email me anytime!

Ok well the car is brand new to me just got it a week ago with 82k miles on it. Its bone stock not a thing done to it what would you recommend first? Change all the fluids and stuff, new pcv, plugs wires or just wait on that stuff ?? any common problems with these cars my impala had a ton

do the complete tune-up and get that out of the way. Flush the coolant, change the oil and oil filter, change the plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, fill the tank with 93, check all you fluid levels, including washer fluid, brake fluid, coolant, and make sure the brake lines are in good shape.

As per the oil, everyone has mixed feelings. I am told that the pure one filter from purolator, and mobile 1 synthetic 5w30 was the best blend, but everyone has a differing opinion on their oils.

Prestone 50/50 coolant is fine for the rad

and regular sae brake fluid to top off the unit.

High octane only from here on out.

Plugs should be the champion AC's....I forget the number's off the top of my head. 230 sumthin I think.....But I forget.

Wires.... Magna cores found at Kenne bell or Summit, should be 8.5 or bigger in the mm's. Poston sells performance wires for a good price too.

The coil pack should be checked out, possibly upgraded, but for now, if the car is running well, I would leave it alone. Lets get this started the right way, and get you on the road to 13's!!

I also bought a stock 85GN and have the same goals. The original car would do a 14.9 on the strip. I then proceeded to make the following changes:
1.Mark Huffman cold air kit.
2.New GM fuel pump(better than stock, not better than high flow which needs and adj. fuel reg.)
3. Poston headers
4. Hooker high flow exhaust.
5. Poston high flow CAT.
6. 30 lbs injectors
7. Adj waste gate actuator set to middle(Ididn't have a real tac nor real boost gage.)
8. Hot wire kit.
9. Rebuilt stock turbo.
10. Ultra chip set for 93 octane.

The car showed a really noticable increase in power. Unfortunatly, the real seal on the new turbo started leaking oil into the exhaust at the rate of a quart every 450 miles. This imediatly started to rapidly plug up the new CAT. A little while later, the CAT was so plugged up that the turbo could not boost at all.

Next, a new turbo was installed along with the setup pipe instead of the CAT. The waste gate actuator was also set to minimum boost(can't tell the real setting because the idiot lights are worthless. I tested the car and noticed even alot more power. On the first run I broke the front car seat right off the floor board(no rust car) and started 1/8 inch B-pillar cracks after going up to sixty miles an hour. After a trip to the body shop, I ordered the following:
1. All three sets of front end brace kits.
2. Installed rear seat frame brace kit(noticably better in handling.
3. A-piller tach and boost gage.
4. Turbo oil drain pipe(old one now leaks oil with the replacement
turbo.

When I get the new parts on and the boost set properly I will post here again. I am confident that this will get me past 14.00 in the quarter.

There are alot of different ways to accomplish your goal-larger turbo, larger fuel pump and reg., intercooler, larger downpipe, larger exhaust, larger fuel injectors etc.

I took my approach because I have no intention of ever thinking about going under 13.5 in the quarter. Good luck- Brad

hey welcome to the club for one ill tell u this these guys will help u out alot as they have wit me just do the research n u will acomplish ur goals i do have a question i do have a boost gauge installed after gettin good instructions step by step on here succeessfully installed it now i wanna install a oil pressure gauge and well my question is is this hard to do ? i have no idea where to start or how to install it so if anyone can take the time to explain it to me or give me some good detailed steps on doing it please do i aprreciate it thanx alot
