When I floor it, and the car has to shift from first to second, it will hit the rev limiter and kind of hang there until I either let off the gas or it finally engages the second gear band by itself. When it does engage the band it slips. It is a newly rebuilt tranny with an Alto red band. It has a shift kit but doesn't shift hard enough to tell. I believe there is problems with the way they installed the kit. They tried adjusting the cable for it to shift harder but then I would have to get the rpms past 4,000 under light throttle and let off for it to shift gears. What causes the tranny not to want to shift to the next gear under WOT? This is mainly on the 1-2 shift.

I can't recall but have you ever press. tested the AMMCO special on the road. I'm thinking that you could possibly have a press. drop situation @ hi RPM or uncovering the filter.

I have repeatedly tried to get them to do a pressure test and they just will not do it for some reason.

If I did then I would have hit everybody that works at AAMCO by now at least twice. I just found out a local guy with a GN has had alot of trouble with these same clowns. Not with his GN, but with his cutomer's cars. One day AAMCO will get what they got coming. BTW Chris, what does one of your shift kits run and does it have a pre-drilled separator plate or would I drill my own holes? Right now I have a different kit and it came with a pre-drilled plate. You can e-mail me with the price quote if you prefer.

Anyone else have any ideas on why it hits it so easily? It normally does it on the 1-2 shift. I was thinking maybe the boost built up so quick at the top of first it confused the tranny. It will also do this when you get in the middle of 2nd and floor it and it kicks down to first. Still waiting on that price quote Chris. I also am looking to order your big servo as I think this will help alot over the 85 GN stock servo.

Sounds like you have too much line pressure in 1st. Had this very issue----WOT, hit rev limiter. If I let off the gas for a breif moment, it would shift. My problem was fixed installing a Monty SS govenor spring. HTH Brian

IVE GOT THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM, I TRIED LOOSENING THE CABLE BUT IT GETS TOO SOFT AND SHIFTS WAY TOO EARLY AND WONT DOWN SHIFT BEFORE I CAN MAKE ANY CHANGE IN THE 1-2 SHIFT. I TRIED REPLACING THE GOVERNOR WITH A UNMODIFIED ONE AND IT DIDNT MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
I HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE ARE DIFFERENT WEIGHT GOVERNORS, ANY IDEA WHAT CAR HAS A HEAVIER ONE?

The problem that you are having is a little tricky meaning that it could be a number of things but your problem is coming from a faulty valve body.I had the same problem when @ WOT the car would not shift out of 1st unless I lifted off the gas pedal however normal driving was fine.Remove your valve body and have it checked that should fix your problem.

My car does the same thing in gear too. Does your car rev past 4000 in gear and in park?

My 87 GN does this too.Trans is fairly fresh 2004R with a shift kit. When I 1st got the car,it shifted OK,but I didn't really "feel" the kit on the upshifts.I was more impressed with a stock, untouched 87 GN with 38K miles on it vs. ths rebuilt one with a kit thats in my car.Anyway, one day it just started acting up as onelethal87 mentioned.I rest the TV cable per factory and it still acts funny. Is swtiching to a Monte SS gov. weight worth it? Where could I get one? These 200 overdrives are all new to me.I wish my 87 shifted like the stock one I drove.Mine still would catch 2nd,but nothing like the stocker.Funny how that is
