Right now, my 200R4/Vigilante 5-disc is good for 2700 rpm @ zero boost. Obviously the spoolup is slower than it should be...

I will be going to a TH400 very shortly...
I wondered what convertor would be best for my combo... and how much $$$ it's 'gonna run me.

I want to make this swap while my 200R4 and converter are still good... I'm afraid if I leave it in the car, it will be broken quickly and completely. ;)

Any ideas what my current 200R4/converter setup is worth ? (less than 2500 miles on it)

The PTC 9.5" will work the best if you plan on building a 140mph car. You have to consider gears and tire height if you are staying with the hydraulic cam. You can easily run out of room up top. $950 last i checked. well worth it

The 28" tires are here to stay... so MPH will need to be made with RPM or gear.

I'd be very happy to get into the 140's.

I'm still on the fence about a solid roller... at least right now I can drive it pretty much anywhere with the hyd roller.

Is anyone running 3.23's with a 28" tire ?

With a MT drag radial 275/60-15 im at about 6100 at 140mph. Tires are not 28" tall though. They measure around 27.5" on the car. I know ill benefit by going to a taller tire. 3.23's would have the same effect on the top end as far as rpm and may be worth e.t. up top if your 60' are already very good since you wont be spinning a taller tire. Easier to turn the lower numerical gear under power at 140mph than the 29"+ tire at the same speed.

Contact Dusty, he will set you up with a properly spec'd 9.5" PTC unit. IMO I think the solid over hydr roller deal is over dramatized. Alot of people are under the assumption that a solid can't be used on the streets in our cars, but I have been running them for years with no issues, and I drive the car any and every chance I get when the weather is good. I set the lash once a year and last time I checked it, there was no reason to set it again, nothing moved. I think the biggest problem with most of the confusion is improper push rod selection/geometry that makes the rockers clang like a diesel motor.

I swapped several PM's with Dusty last night... As soon as my 200R4 stuff is sold, I'll get the converter ordered from him.

As far as solid rollers are concerned, I've run them in so-called "street cars" but never drove them much on the street due to the insane spring pressures.

I just (10 minutes ago) ordered a complete Beehive spring setup (26120's) for my car... I just don't trust the dual springs above 6000...
There's a big Buick meet at Cecil in a week or two... so we'll see how the hyd roller does real soon. :D

The biggest problem with running a solid was the life of the roller on the lifter. There is a threshold on the spring presusre where if you are on the high side you will wear the roller out quickly. Most guys using the solid setups are doing so to be able to rev the engine much higher and open the valve a lot faster. If you had a mild solid lobe you would not have a problem with the solids as long as they were shielded foot
