Dept manager for a national retail chain. Job get's boring at times, but pay is good (I made over $42k-48k ea. for the last 4 years), schedule is pretty flexible too. Extra cash from e-Bay.
Plan to start my own business within a few years, automotive related be it aftermarket parts or custom design.

To answer the qestion about affording the cars; overtime, side jobs, selling and trading parts and cars and just learning to do a lot of it yourself as well as buying good used parts will help you, besides being a former millionaire like Bruce.

I have seen the result of my work in soldiers that go through basic training and come back as sergeants due to a very small part of what I do.

Several things I have built or helped build are orbiting the Earth every day. I built part of the CanadarmII on the Space Station, the part that measures forces and moments on the arm itself. Two navigational instruments called star trackers I helped with are on their way to Mars. One star tracker went up on the shuttle twice and is now on its own little satellite called Scisat-1. It neat to hold something that has been in orbit before.

Check this link . My team built the instrument called MAESTRO. The star tracker sits right next to MAESTRO.

Next program is the James Webb Space Telescope which is the Hubble successor, it will be in the news more each year until the launch in 2011.

electro-mech, what that mean is that I am in building services [ fac-ops] at a Target distribution center. I work on everything there from the sorter, crown lift trucks, 480 3 phase systems and the list goes on. I have the 86 t-type, a 79 Trans am, a 68 400 firebird, a 87 monte carlo ss, and a 98 crew cab dually in the yard. Am I loaded? NO I am not, but I have held on to the cars over the years and slowly gathered the ones I have. Don't think you have to be rich to enjoy this hobby [ although it does help lol ] just do it a step at a time and enjoy it! A lot of guys get snooty over time, especially ones with a little money. Your car is just as sweet to yours as theirs is to them. Hang in there and get a good education is the key!!!! Daniel

I am the guy that you all are cussin' at when the cable TV goes off (usually when it goes off like everyday for a few days to a month or so). I am a contracting splicer and sweep tech, and I upgrade these old decrepit cable systems so you all can get highspeed internet and digital TV.

I absolutely love my job - it is my customers (prime contractors that bid on the work from MSO's (Cox, Comcast, Time Warner, Charter, etc)) that give the most problems in my industry. I travel from coast to coast, I work with my brain and my braun, and I make awesome money... The downside is I have to be ready to move in a moments notice.

This is awesome to read what everyone does for a living. What a diverse community!
