I just picked up this block at a price I call a gift. It was brand new in the crate only thing was done is bushed lifter bores not sure on lifter size and the deck has what the guy told me was a grove for a nitrogen ring. This motor was from jim ruggles. It has 3.960 bore and a standard deck height. I want to mill the deck 0.040 to take that nitrogen ring grove out. What do you think. Is 0.040 something I can live with off the deck. It also has cam bearings installed. Let me know if you notice anything out of the norm. I believe he told me the block has been in the crate since 97 or so. Thanks

How wide is the o-ring groove? You might be able to fill it with soft copper wire and file that flat and run a commetic.

I think you mentioned wanting to open it up to a 4.00 bore in another thread. You'll be buying a custom piston regardless, you might as well use the 3.965 bore. I guess that depends on what type of rings you want to run. That leaves pleny of meat for a good ring seal and room to overbore down the road.

Looks like a nice block.

Not sure on how wide the grove is but its around the width of a piston ring. Wanted to run a 4.000 bore due to the extra cubes and more options on piston rings. I am gonna take the block to rpe and let bobby look at it.

I probably wouldn't bore it .040 out the gate. I wouldn't bore it more than necessary to clean it up. You figure everything and I mean everything you get from now on will be custom. Expect delays. You have been asking a ton of questions about stage 2 stuff and you are heading in the right direction. Keep us posted on the build!

You may want to look into that. There is a lot of piston and ring pack availabilities for 4.0 inch bore. Will give you more flexibility on ring pack selection.

Sorry Alan, I probably should have spreaded my thoughts out. The initial .040 I was referring to was off of the deck. The last time I saw a ring like that was for a liner but your bore is too small for that. I wonder where the Nitrogen comes from, hmmmm!
