IIts been a while since I have posted becuase I sold my ttype 2 years ago. I am getting back in the game, I just bought an 84 ttype roller and want some opinions on what I should do with it. I decided I am going to do a frame off resto and paint it the original color. The guy I bought it from has a hot air engine and an intercooled engine. I also was thinking if im not going to put the original engine in maybe an LS. Thanks in advance for any opinions.

Build a nice hot air engine keep it true to what it is but with more power

I was thinking about keeping it a hot air since I am going to restore everything else to original but I really want a mid to high 10s car.

I'm not to familiar with the hot air cars but I'm sure if you can make a civic run 10s a turbo 3.8 shouldn't be a issue

HA will take some thought andwork to make 10s from... not cheap or easy... but possible.
Intercooled is almost the same game, but alot more possible.
LS would just be the easiest and probably cheapest way to 10s, but also super gay from a puriest perspective.

just depends... how quickly you want all this done, how much money you have and how much you care for originality.

I do care about originality and wouldnt mine making it hot air and was even thinking about intercooling the hot air engine to get me into the 10s but that is only because I dont understand alky injection.

best bet if your really wanting 10s and a HA would be to look into the use of E85. for any non intercooled car this is the hot ticket. There are some IC jobs done on HAs and they work well, but alot of puriest HA guys shun them and they are too bastardized for the intercooled crowd... kinda a rock and a hard place deal.

but it would be nice to see another dedicated HA performer... the few that have succeded have really changed the ball game for the early cars if your willing to do the work. Check out the HOTAIR section down a few forum chapters from this one... browse around, see the challenges in front of them... think long and hard and then make some ideas on what you would like to do. The forum has tons and tons of information it shouldnt be too hard to make a decision. But if it were up to me, id spend 2 weeks just learning what i was getting into for any of the options. But your on the right path, and opinions from some of the more senor members here is and can be very very helpful and getting atleast a pointer for navigating this huge forum is a great first start!

but congrats on your purchase and welcome back to the buick family!

Thanks for the advice I like e-85 idea but its not readily available where Iive so I would be using 93. I am going to keep researching the hot air section to learn more about it. I am probably going to stick with that and intercool it. I would like to just run alky but need to learn more about it.

Go LSX and be done with it. It's just a car. Less money and ALOT more power to be had on the cheap with a 5.3 liter truck engine. A hot air 3.8 is a waste of time. They are junk engines. I have been involved in turbo Buick V6's for longer then most on here have been alive, but the technology of the new GM V8's is amazing. For the purists out there..........send the guy a huge check to build what you want him to build. Oh.....come on.....it's just a dang car. If it was a GNX then yes keep it original.
