What is done inside to raise the stall of a stock convertor, and when that isn't enough, what else is done to that convertor ? This is concerning my DSM really..I've searched high and low for details on the web and got no definative answers...These transmissions are a b#*ch to remove and I would like more info to help get it right next time...

I would call Precision and I am sure they can help you.I did not think that trans would hold up with any power.I have had 1 automatic talon it was a 91 and the other two I had were 5 speeds.I miss my galant vr4 that car was blast to drive. good luck.Oh that trans is a PITA to pull

Thanx for the reply..Precision is a total waste of time for 1g cars..I talked to Jack and he said they will not build the 1g convertor again :frown:

Things that go into creating Stall.

There are a lot of different ways to incrase stall speed. Bending the pump fins (trans pump side of the converter) away from engine rotation increases stall speed, but can compromise efficiency if bent to far.

Modifying the stator by trimming the foil (looks like an airplane wing) down or thinning of the stator can increase stall speed.

It all depends on what your trying to do with the car.

As in the 2004R converters, I have seen the low stall 19 vane stators with removed vanes, shaved down and the pump fins bent down to try and make a high stall. Easiest way in these is to install 14 vane stator and shave down the sides. There are much better ways to keep efficiency up. Best bet I was going to say is to call Precision, but looks like you went that way already. :frown:
