I figure this has been discussed in many threads, but since I don't have hours to look through all of the threads. What needs to be done to change to an external wastegate and can it be done? Thanks in advance!:)

Change Downpipe [Block off opening for integral WG], Get a good external gate, get headers welded with tubing for gate [not necessary, but proven to have better boost control over running the gate off of turbine hsg], if you choose not to run off the header you either have to run a WG off of the exhaust hsg or you can weld a mounting pad on the crossover.... hth.... oh and most importantly spend $$$$

The economical way would be to simply mount the wastegate of your choice on the crossover pipe. Works perfect and you don't have to get in to DP's.

Thats not really optimum but its how we used to do it back in the day.

My car ran 10.19 at 135 mph with the wastegate stuck down there. Boost was always rock steady. True, this was back in the day before we had all these DP's and options. And that would be the way to go to be politically correct. But the old crossover was just as effective as the WG mounted on the DP or header. Not trying to be diffulcult JayC but I'm still living in the past.
