Hey Guys,
I was planning on building a new motor this spring. Well long story short, the bad economy has hit my work and I am now down hours and it doesn't look to promising in the near future. I purchased a Te45a turbo last fall and was planning on running it on the new engine. Right now I have a 19000 mile unopened stocker with just a valve spring upgrade as the only time I even had the covers off it. I talked to Eric (Turbo Tweak)last fall about my goal of mid to low 10's with the new motor and he recommended 79's so I did not run 60's to there limit. My question is can I put the 45a and 79's in my engine I have now and run it at about 22-23 lbs and be ok? I do not want to purchase anything twice. How much of a difference will I notice over the stock turbo at 22-23? I run ALKY and aftermarket 3 inch downpipe and exhaust. I have a Dutt neck cooler, but a PTI stretched is on my list if $$$ holds out. Would this combo get me into the high to mid 11's? I have all the chassis mods already like aluminum trailing arms, bags, shocks, bigger sway bar, ET streets. I have a GNX rear seat brace left to install, but it will be done before this spring.

I will quit babbling and listen now.
Thanks

To give you an idea of what is possible. I run a set of 160s on my engine. Of course, it runs on pure alcohol, but I also have a gasoline program for storage or car show use. I can run the injector pulse width low enough with the 160s to get a proper idle mixture at idle. That is without changing my fuel rail pressure which is set at 45 psi.
I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to do what you are planning.

Thanks Donnie. I will have to send you some photos of the trailing arms I am fabbing. After looking at your intake photos, I am excited to finish some of my projects so I can post those pics. I build Kenny Belle booster plates also. I am trying to find a vendor to sell them for me.

Thanks for your reply. 160's WOW...

Take care,
Coach

160s is just part of the total fuel system, but off boost the engine runs on the 160s alone.

With a good chip burned for the stockish combo. you should be fine.

What converter is on the car, you probably need a 3200 for that turbo?

Probably 30-35RWHP over the stocker at 22/23 psi. on pump and alky.

It certainly would slow you down however without a decent properly sized stall torque converter.

TE 45 a

Your car is going to run slower then stock.... TE45a is too big for a non headed motor and unless you have a bigger intercooler along with a 3500 stall and it will not work well. Buy a chip that you can add fuel or take out or you'll be sending it back and forth in the mail 100 times before its right. Your 60s would be enough to get the job done but you really need a Double pumper to keep the injectors supplied with plenty of fuel. Big,bigger is not always better... There are so many 9 second parts cars running around on the street that run 13s-14s on the track...
We have a fellow over here that is running a stock D-5, stretch IC, 36# blue tops ,SMC alky and a TA-49 turbo. The motor is unopened and his car flat out hauls asszz on 20-21# boost timing is 18*.

Info like this is why I posted. I had a feeling that I would run into a few more items needed to make it work. I have my new combo planned out and the turbo was the first purchase because I found a good deal on it. I will just let it sit until I get the other motor done. I am going to run Champion irons and a PTI convertor. The bottom end will be girdled and a forged stroker crank will be the foundation. I may just find a 49 for this summer. Can I still run the 79#inj so I do not have to buy others? I run stockers now, but the 79's are for the new combo.

Thanks

You could easily put the 45 on the car with the proper converter.

It won't hold you back and you're going to need a proper converter anyway regardless of the overall combo.

Skip the 49 and get the tranny done first with the proper converter.

I have a DBB 70 on a stocker with 3200 stall and it's just as fast and streetble as a 49. ;)

I'd run the 79's with a TT chip which is adjustable as long as you tell him the combo. currently I doubt you will have any issues with them.

Save the money you were gonna spend on the turbo for a good stock location intercooler or a frontmount.

For a summer it won't kill you, but get the tranny done first with the right converter for the turbo. :)

I'd hang the turbo and injectors with what you got. Get a good chip and you'll be fine. The 45a will not work good until you get a 3000+ stall converter. The 45a will work fine with stock unported heads. A buddy had that setup and we went high 11's with pretty much stock everything. Probably had more in it but he got rid of that car before we really got the tuning down on it.
BTW, one pump can make 595 rwhp (which is what my car made running 10.3's). I know this because on my own car with 95 pound injectors we went to the dyno, had a pump fail completely, then did some pulls on the single pump to see what the limit would be first hand. We did 595 rwhp, duty cycle on my Gen7 DFI was pretty high...95% range. Went right to the track and ran 10.3's.
