well it fits in the shift light indicator hole and lights up when the lights are on but just isnt long enough it i know its the right one then ill try to pull it out farther if that dosent weork then im gonna cut and splice some wire in it and use it for that anyways

that light is for the ashtray lights. if you had a bench seat car the ashtray would pull out from under the radio pod..

you can just simply splice into that wiring and fix your indicator light. mine car was fixed like that from the factory BTW. so it looks like someone @ gm forgot to add that wiring or it started out as a bench seat column shift car.

thanks thats what i was thinking after i took out the radio and traced where the wire came from. it fits in the plastic peice just fine so i am going to use that. i have an 87 cutlass with the colum shifter but the ashtray light looks a lil different. but thanks looks like i have the problem solved.

All Regals have the non console ashtray light socket. My GN does anyway. IIRC the shifter light had a jumper wire that plugged into the dash harness in about the same area as that light socket.

i took the console out and the radio and searched for another one but no luck on finding it. maybe it was cut out or was never there who knows

This might be the answer...

"corymc" could it be that the reason for which you're not finding any wire going to the console it that your car did not come originally with one?...I'm saying this because when you had the console, the ash tray was located in it, not under the dash...

Claude :)

P.S: also, the crimped-on blue terminal on the white wire shown in your picture is not original...somebody must have used this wire as a power supply for something else in the past...

FWIW, this is the way my GN is, too. The ashtray light just hangs out behind the dash - serves no purpose in a bucket-seat car.

yeah im not sure my dash is hacked up cuz one of the previous owners had a tv in the dash which sucks cuz the dash has been bootleged back together. but that light works fine i just spliced in more wire and pu tit in all is well now thanks everyone who commented and gave their take on it it helped me out.

I just removed mine....The wires that you are showing has a splicer on it, like the one that is on my car. The wire for the shift ind. light jumps off the splice with a single gray wire which runs to the shifter area on the console..
There is a black wire on the shifter indicator socket that grounds to the shifter.

Attention OT..... sorry.... but what is IIRC?

My dumb @ss thought it had something to do with Internet Relay Chat.... IRC......
