All oil is a blend of different qualities for one purpose, preventing wear, suspending contaminants, heat and cold flow, etc. What works in a race car where heat and thermal breakdown are a concern, would not work so well in a daily driver where stop and go driving and cold winter starts mean that contaminents and cold flowing properties may be more important.
The consensus, as far as I have read. If you're driving your TB as a daily driver and only occasionally going to the track, then a good Dino Oil that you change every 3k is probably okay. You can spend the extra money for a synthetic to provide more wear and heat/cold protection but it may not give you better service.

Exactly! That is why I use the synthetic: for the sharp temperature swings around here. Last week, it was around 100 degrees, now it's 60-something. Welcome to the midwest, right? :) And I do quite a bit of starting and stopping with my tuning.
Not too long ago, 60 minutes (I believe) and one of the larger magazines did a test with the New York Taxi Cabs between "big name" oils and the generics. Both had the same industry ratings (SJ, I believe). There were NO appreciable benefits to spending the extra money on a name brand.
For my TR? I'll use the synthetic.
For my daily driver turd? I'll use Wal-Mart cheapo with the same rating as the big names for half the price (both are SJ or better).

Just my 2 cents.

Was using GTX 20w-50 in the summer heat. Lately I've been using the Valvoline VR1 20w-50.

In the winter I stick with GTX 10w-40. My oil is clean every time I check it, and every time I change it around 3k. Only has 34k on the new motor, so looks great so far.

I use 5W-50 Castrol synthetic year round. -40 to +40 year round, racing etc. Oil pressure 23psi hot idle..........
