I bought a TE-60 turbo and it come with a stock D-5 conv loosened to stall at2800.

I'm going to be putting in a fresh mildly built trans this spring and don't want to take a chance with this used converter. Would a 3200-3300 be to much?? I was thinking of going higher with the stall if I'm going to buy a new converter. Do it once be done.. and have some room for future growth. What would be the down side to going to high since 2800 is what is recomended??

My new mods with the converter and trans will be 60lb motorons TT chip and a THDP.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thanks!!!
Tony

3200 should be fine.

If you ever go to a huge turbo, then you will need to run the ball bearing option.

Remember anything over 3200 for a street car maybe a tad too much.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replys to all!!! There is a Coan converter on e-bay I was thinking of bidding on it stalls around 3200-3300. Are they any good???
Thanks, again

PM Dusty Bradford on these boards. He is the PTC rep. He will fix you up with exactly what you need. Some people even accuse him of being a really nice guy and very knowledgable.;) :D

I saw that same converter. I have a PTC 3200 from Dusty now, but I havn't run it yet. I need some snow and stuff to melt and hopefully a good rain to clean the sand off the streets. I just stepped up to a 6152, and the PTC. I think it is going to be spot on. I hope anyways. Talk with Dusty, he'll hook you up, very highly recommended. J:biggrin:

I happen to have a precision vig for sale 3200 stall single disk. it has been in my car for 4 months and has about 2500 miles on it. I bought it brand new from precision for 730.00 and would sale for 400.00. Its like new. Im rebuilding my motor now and decided to get a higher stall convertor for my setup

The 3200 will compliment that turbo nicely however I have known several people who have actually ran a stock converter and never complained.

I put mine. It feels great on the street, like it not even there. One thing I did notice immediatley was how fast on into boost. I drove it a few times with the stock converter. I know people say well you can do it. Sure you can, but why would you want to?? Once you get it out with the converter its all over. I will say it is abit more tame than I thought it would be. I'm still tuning though. Life doesn't begin until 24PSI!:D ;)

IMO - 3200-3300 is too much convertor for that turbo cuz it will kill the tires. With my stock motor I was running a 2800 12" & RJC boost controller...its spooled like mad.

I say go with the 3200-3300 stall and get a bigger turbo

Agreed. 2800 stall is not that bad for that 60. Run that first and see how you like it. Unless you think it's toast or contaminated.

Thanks again for the replies!! I have a friend who is going to help me with the trans and converter and he said the same thing. Go with the 2800 D-5!!!
My only concern was that it might be contaminated. What's the best way to flush it ???? I've also been told it's unlikely that the converter is bad or slipping. Not to common with the D-5!! Would most agree with that???

Dont worry about 3200 being too much stall speed.I have a pats 3200 stall still with my stock turbo actually I,m upgrading to a TE60 soon.During normal driving it feels just like the stock converter until you really get into it..Even with the stock turbo this converter is not too much..And besides if they recommend 2800 stall for your TE60 an extra 400 rpm stall speed probably wont be noticed much..
