looking at getting a new turbo. Listed below is the current setup. Car has gone 11.8*,1.60 60 foot at 21psi on 24/21 timing. would like to go to a bigger turbo to run some better times goal is solid 11.50* with 21-22 psi of boost. I dont really like turning the boost up that high since its a low milage motor. Car will be getting a new converter at the time of turbo purchase. Looking at getting a PTC converter. any ideas would be great.

16,000 Original Miles (valve covers never been off) timing chain is the only thing that has been replaced.

Turn up the boost. Stock heads need boost. A bigger turbo isn't always the answer. As far as converter, I am using a 0 pump 3000 stall with a 76GTQ with no real spooling ussues. I used the same converter on a stock 231 with a TE63e also. A vigilante works very well unlocked into the high 10's before slippage is really bad. IMO, a converter swap would net little to no change. 25lbs of boost would make a big difference. As long as there is no detonation, it won't hurt the engine at all. I have a friend who has been running 28lbs with a TA49 on a stock unopened engine since 1991.

I have t 6265RS for my junk with similar goals to what you have.
However I am not sure I would buy another turbo to get to your goal.
I bigger turbo will not really be safer, don't think about the boost it is just a
measurement of the cfm's restriction going through the motor. My point is that the bigger turbo
would put the same strain on your motor as your existing one at the specific power lever you are going for.
Your turbine is on the smaller side but I bet that really helps the drivability.

What's your mph? I did what you did for years. Tried different turbos, different tunes, etc... all with same boost. Stock heads were my main restriction. I ended up just turning up the boost and got addicted to it.

car has gone 115. i was thinking bigger turbo mean more flow thus less boost required to flow the same amount of air. maybe my thinking was off. just hate pushing high boost #'s on a low milage motor
