With the stock converter, the TA49 or the TE44 will be great for you. You might look into getting a higher stall converter and a larger turbo if you want to get even faster. For now though, the 44 or the 49 will be just fine with what you have.

Get a different chip too.

a 44 or 49 if you don't want to upgrade the convertor to 3 grand or so if you plan on getting a bigger stall buy once make sure you get something capable with what you want. A 44/49 will get you mid 11s. I'm not sure on the stock turbo price, maybe 200-250? I'll let somebody else take a stab

i was looking at a te-44, the te-44 will bolt right on? hey Taffy what chip do you recommend? i asked once but got no response
so a converter is that important in order to go faster huh( i know sounds like a dumb question but i know squat about the tc, other than the guy who sold me the buick said it was bad, LIAR! changed 2 of them till found out it was the tranny.)
thanks for the input guys i really apreciate the help:) i think i will go with the te-44

The TE-44 is a direct bolt-on as long as you get a new waste gate actuator with it. The TE-44 is a GREAT street/strip turbo.

There are many good chip makers out there - I happen to like my street and race chips from Joe Lubrant at Precision.

Any of the newer chips makers out there have good chips. Eric Marshall, Bob Bailey (Extender), Precision, Jay Carter. I am sure there are others out there, but those were off the top of my head.

I am a little biased because I sell Jay Carter chips, but I have run Jay's chips on my personal car and I loved them.

Getting a higher stall converter is not as important in going fast as making power is. There are guys out there that can run deep into the 11s with the stock converter. Most guys (probably 95%) can not get out of the 12s with the stock converter.

Getting a higher stall converter also makes the car a little more peppy on the street if you go to a larger turbo. Sure you can sit at the tree and wait for boost to come on, but on the street, it sucks!! The higher stall converter takes care of that.

With the good converters out today, even the high stall ones feel like stockers until you stab the loud pedal.

The TE44 will bolt right up no problem!

Whats wrong with your turbo? Is your car running low 12's and you want faster?

A bigger turbo of any kind at 16-18 PSI on a stock motor wont make any additional power. All it will do is make the car laggy. Unless a converter is added as part of the package and you are wanting to run past 23-24 PSI boost at least.

Careful what ya ask for, you may just slow your car down if not careful.

HTH

Stock being it doesnt have a big cam and head work.
