I am looking to upgrade the turbo and injectors and want to go as big as possible without having to fabricate stuff(I am not that good:D )

I was looking at things over in the turbo section.
TA49's are taking car into the 11 sec range on 86/87, dont know if that is possible on my car but.......what do you guys think of them...TA49's????
Are 86/87 turbo and 86/87 aftermarket turbo the same as 84/85 turbos????might be a stupid:confused:
I dont want to run a stall.........my tranny is stock afraid I will do more damage to her then good........I will get a shift kit put in!
So what are all you guys running: stall, no stall, what turbo with what injectors.........I want to go with the 42.5lb. injectors!!!

A BIG TIA!!!!

Nick

Here is some info the hotair vs. intercooled with regards to turbos http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/pictureguides/turboguide/8485vs8687.html

The turbo I run spools pretty slow, but once it get spinning it's like getting shot out of a cannon :D . It was built by John Craig for Lee Thompsons car (he went 11's with this turbo), thanks Lee!

I like the TA49 and was considering using it but I figured I'll either go big or stay home :) :) FWIW the TA49 spools faster than the 60-1. You'll want a higher stall with either turbo.

So any turbo for a turbo buick will work? Just change exhaust housing? A reclock the turbo a little........??? Or do we have turbos made just for our application........I know there are a few guys running 86/87 turbos on their hot airs.

Thanks,,,,,,Nick

How would I go about porting the exhaust housing for the turbo.......something I can do with a drill and honing device????I dont know? Or something a shop can do cheap?? I see alot of people running TA33. Is a TA33 even worth my time if I want low 12's.

What turbo do I need for low 12's???
The TA49 interest me, but I am not sure??
I dont want to have to fabricate or cut stuff up.......or is that a must since the turbo is in the back of the engine compartment??

Can I run 42.5 injectors with the stock turbo until I scrap up the rest of the money for a used turbo...???

thanks.......hope that all made since:D

Nick

Nick, once you have the turbomotion intake on you don't have to worry about the differences between the hot air and i/c turbo's. The i/c turbo dont have a outlet like our stock hot-air turbo's where the adaptor fits in and goes to the intake. You proabably have never even seen yours since the sperco was already on. Just order or buy the turbo you want and you will have to reclock it to where you want it. You can polish up your stock exhaust housing with a sandpaper wheel or something like that.

If you only want low 12's then you could aways get a cheap stock 86-87 turbo and it will take you there with no stall needed to run it. I have the v2 and the stock 85 turbo on now and it is pretty slow , i just took my ta49 off and i lose a lot of power from stock to the 49. I would say the ta33 would be a nice turbo for the stock stall, when i had my 33 it could have used a little bigger then stock. so really its all about the money, the stock 87 , ta33 will go low 12's but the ta49 you could use a 2600-2800 stall to use it right.

hope this helps.:)

1 Quick 85, where did you get your V2 intake? I didn't think they were available anymore. Has production resumed?

Got my V2 intake off ebay.......last night actually..........DR. D.
It has never been used yet........got it for 900 bucks!!

How big can I go with the turbo before I would have to hack stuff up.........

How much better is the 86/87 turbo compared to ours.......CFM's?
Would my tranny hold up to a shift kit and stall put in it? It does have a tranny cooler!

Will the TA49 be capable of low 12's high 11's even?

V2 turbomotion kit
kenne bell exhaust
going to get a ATR downpipe
got an up pipe
no cat
think about getting a cold air kit
stall 2800
TA49
42.5 lbs.
hot wired bigger pump
other little stuff too

were might this combo land me with some go 60ft times.....obviously not to good with my street tires......215's..:D

Thanks for all your guys input......still stumpt which way to go.....lol.....Nick

Drew Carlton went 11's with the TA33 mounted on my engine, no intercooler. I'd say mid to deep 11's are in the cars with the V2 setup...

Really a little TA33??????? Damn.......what kind of set up did he have on her when he went 11's????

thanks Nick

You could go well in the 11's but you would need some good tires, drag shocks airbag, and some real good tuning. I have about the same setup as the one you are thinking and i just want 12.30's @109 with no yuning and some bad cracked headers. With a stall they will both take you were you want to go.

sounds like some $$$ being spent

I saw that v2 on ebay, I wanted it, but 900 is a lot of cash. The combo you are talking about, ta 49, 42.5 injectors and such, 11's are just the beginning. With the v 2, i believe your turbo options greatly increase over the stock applications. As I understand, any TA turbo from precision will fit your car. You may definately want to look into getting that stall converter, and maybe buy a rebuild kit for the trans just to be prepared. The transmission, stock, can take a beating, but not a big beating. You can't power- break too much, so you may also want to get a line lock to get the RPM's up for launch. Get all the guages necessary for the dash board, and get a turbolink or scanmaster and get the car tuned. You may hit 11.1 with a very good tune. Good luck

John

Thanks for the response...........I know 900 bucks is a lot of cash, but I dont think I will be running past to many of these turbomotion V2's;) So I grabbed it........TA49 sound like it will be more then enough for me with the 42.5 lbs. injectors..........so I am keeping an eye out for a TA49.........if i get one I just have to switch the exhaust housing if it has a 86/87 housing on it???

I already have Tach, hood mounted fuel press. gauge, oil press, water temp, boost, knock, and turbo link......my ECM must be a little messed up cause when I try to run turbolink it keeps locking up........I dont think it is the lap top....but who knows my 86/87 ECM should be here any day too:D

My combo I hope to accomplish with in the next two years...hehe....I am in college yet......so what do you think....just hoping to crack into the 11's or low 12's:

used TA49
used or new 42.5 injectors
2.5 SS up and down pipes coated maybe
poston crossover..........rusty kenne bell 2.5 exhaust with dynomax...stock headers....atr racepipe.......atr exhaust to follow......probably last thing I do!
V2 intake and intercooler
Mark Haufman(hope I spelled your name right;) ) cold air kit
Shift kit and used convertor
ramcharger electric fans
87 ECM with custom burnt chip from someone.
drag radials on weld lite's

would a 86/87 intercooler scoop help me at all with the V2 intercooler

so obviously I dont have the money for all this stuff want to get the injectors and need the down pipe yet and the burnt chip and cold air intake...........can I run my car with stock turbo with 42.5 injectors no probs....???

Sorry for the long post...........but I am excited about this and trying to get as much info as possible from you guys:D

Nick

I was gong to get a custom burnt chip to run with the 86/87 ECM.....and delete the EGR.........keep the stock 85 maf sensor and other stuff........then just tell the burner to burn it using 42.5 lbers. and my stock turbo for now.??????.......until i can scrap up the money for a convertor and turbo??

Nick

if i remember correctly the tm kit has a relocated(pressurized)throttle body and you can use damn near any turbo(ta or te) with it.

if i were you i'd snag up a used te44 and 42.5# injectors.that'll take you as far as you want to go and you can use your stock stall with it.

hell,i ran my stock d5 with my ta-60 for a while and it wasn't that bad.better with my 2800 9/11 tho:cool: .

your chip/tuning will have a lot to do with your spoolup.if you're running too rich even a stocker will be a pig.

later,sean

TE44 and 42.5lbs. injector sounds go to me too.........I am watch the parts for sale section......but most likely wont be able to get them for a while yet..........thanks for the reply sean......I am going to get a few other parts yet before my turbo and injectors but it is nice to hear everyones imput:D I am going to do some research on the TE44 now:D thanks............Nick
