I Want To Change My Turbo But I Want Something That Will Spool Up Fast With The Stock Convertor With Little Or No Lag How Big Can Go My Car Is Still Basically Stock I Dont Want To Change The Stall Speed Till I Get Ready To Get The Tranny Rebuilt I Was Going To Go With A 2800 Or 3000 Stall This Is Going To Be A Daily Driver And I Will Be Taking It To The Track Too

te44 or ta49, but you'll need a good fuel pump, hotwire kit for the pump, and better injectors, and an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

What Is The Difference Between The Te44 And The Ta49 How Fast Can I Go With These Turbos

There are basically 3 turbos you can run with the stock convertor, TE44 and TA49 as mentioned and the newer GT3255. There's a big debate about which one actually can run fastest..all the turbo builders swear by the new GT3255 but the TE44/TA49 actually are rated at a higher hp...the gain in the GT32 is supposedly that it spools faster and reaches its peak hp faster than the older 44/49s...I bet they can all be tuned to run about the same. There really is not much difference between all of them, the TA series has a stock appearing inlet bell, the TE series does not.
Here's a guide you can look at to compare how they look:

The GT series can be order with either compressor housing..stock appearing or the TE housing.
All 3 can be tuned to run high 11's with careful tuning, 12's easily.

Now if your thinking of getting a bigger stall convertor down the road...then do you really want to buy twice?? Either go ahead and get a bigger turbo if your goals are larger than high 11's and deal with the lag until you get a different convertor, or just stick with the stocker until you're ready to change turbo and convertor at once....next step up from those turbos woould be the GT61 series...with either the standard 52E exhaust wheel which requires 3200 stall..or a 31E exhaust wheel which would need around a 3000 stall.....or go up to the GT67 / 45A series whick need somewhere around 3400-3600 stall.

Don't know what has the best specs, but I installed the GT3255 on mine with stock convertor, and this sucker will scare the bejesus out of whoever is in the passenger seat. Whatever you ultimately decide however you will need to upgrade the fuel pump (hotwire kit also recommended) if you haven't already and larger injectors (46-50 lb range at least)

I'm not trying to hijack here, but I was about to ask a similar question. Basically, I want to know what stock appearing turbo I could run with a stock convertor and the RJC boost controller? Everybody says it allows larger turbos to spool with smaller convertors, but how large in the stock TA stuff? What exhaust housing?
