I just got done using some mcquires black gold or something, the liquid one that comes in a box. It sucks compared to old turtle wax. In the right light. I can still see the outline of the water spots from last time it got wet, and its over all not as shiney/glossy. Maybe it needs a couple coats or something. Do I need some cleaner wax or something? What have you found works good on these black cars. So far turtle wax has been the best for me.

What I like to use and have been on all my cars is liquid wax by the Wax shop. Works great especially on dark cars cause it does not leave any kind of white chalk residue. The main thing is to get the paint clean of all oxidation first. Get a good paint scrub from Mothers or Maquires, both work good.

If you've never used a clay bar on the car, do so! Makes a world of difference, at least it did on my 12 y/o paint. Wash with Dawn to strip the old wax off, clay bar, a cleaner wax, and then a wax of your choice. I like Blackfire, but that's just me.

Use the clay bar, it makes a world of difference! AND THEN, get yourself a bottle of that Turtle Wax Color Cure. In black of course. Unbelievable results for a low price. I was so amazed with this. It fills in any imperfections with black wax instead of white so they dont show. Secondly, they give you what is like a crayon that you go back and forth the deep scratches to fill them in. Then when you wax over em, they practically dissappear. I will never buy any other wax again. This stuff is AWESOME! Made EVERYONE do a double take on the car!

What type of paint are we talking about here?

I'm hearing everyone suggest the clay bar and various types of wax, but what paint are we talking about here?? Original GM paint?? Paint job from a few years ago??

I have always used Meguiars. I usually wash with Meguiars car wash, dry, do 2 coats of Meguiars cleaner wax, then 2 coats of the Gold Class or Meguiar's #26 carnauba wax.

Meguiars. I was using that today after i washed my car, and i left alot of oil-looking lines from where the pad was after i rubbed it off. maybe its because the wax is old. now i wish it would rain, since i only did the hood and stopped; it was soo $#@$ing hot at noon. 95 degrees is too much for me.

Check out the EX and Polish with Carnuba from poorboysworld.com. Over on the detailing forums, a lot of people are switching over to this stuff from Zaino.

I've used almost every product Poorboys makes and its all really good stuff.

I used to be a Zainoholic myself.

I suggest you sign up over at autopia.org. There is lots of good detailing information in the forums.
