January of 2003 I had a dealership replace my timing chain. Two weeks later the rod and main bearings had to be replaced and the crankshaft turned .010. Now the rod bearings have let loose again and ruined my crankshaft!!! Now, here's the best part. After my friend took the pan off today he found out that the crankshaft that is in my car now is not the original one but one from a non turbo Buick!!! What would you do??? Thanks, R.B.

Problem is if you are not the orginal owner there is no proof that the engine is orginal. They worked on what was there. So it looks like somewhere along the life of the engine the crank was replaced with a non turbo one.

The car had 38,000 miles on it when I bought it! Completely stock! Trust me, it had the original crankshaft in the car! R.B.

So you are saying that when the dealership did your bottom end, they replaced the crank with a non-turbo one?

The GM part number and casting number are the same for both type cranks. It would follow that the un-knowing service departmant just got a reman non-turbo crank kit and installed it in your engine.

Just a guess, but have seen this done before unfortunately.:(

Guess that's a good reason to deal with someone that is very familiar with TBs. I have heard horror stories about dealers that knew nothing about TBs and messed them all up.

I suppose you can go to the dealer and explain what happended and see if they are honest enough to help you out. If they put in the wrong crank then they are at fault.

I just ran 7.0 1/8 mile runs all saturday night on a non-turbo crank. The turbo crank is no doubt the one to have but not extremely necessary.I would not really worry about it unless you plan on going to the low 10s IMHO.I built this motor 2 years ago and beat the living crap out of it ever since.I had a thread about NA cranks up a while back and got some interesting replies.Someone even posted about one going 9.8s in the 1/4 I beleive.

To borrow a line from Lyonsd

My story would have started like "After the cops pulled me off this guy for putting an Na crank in my motor"

Someone who will remain nameless put a cut buick crank in my motor that was supposed to be a new tta crank, and that score remains unsettled...for now.

Line 2: Two weeks later the rod and main bearings......

That sounds fishy from the start.
