When I asked the body shop how easy did the front fillers go on they said they were easiest ones they ever did . Didn't had to anything but paint them for me n went right on . That's all I can tell you . And thong these will never do is sag .

Well gentlemen, maybe the 4 sets I painted and installed were all the same fitment, and not the norm for spoolfool. My intentions are not to downgrade the spoolfool fillers as they are a great product, but to help inform buyers of the options available. Now calling all spoolfool front filler guys, can I get pictures of installed and painted, front filler area near the grille where the header panel lines up with the filler that has the high thin line going to the front bumper? Need up close pics please. This is the only area I have had a concern about as the rest of the filler up the front fender and below the headlight area is great.

The op ask for a front filler that is identical to original, Imho the GBodyParts.com soft filler does this perfectly.

If a customer ask me to paint and install the spoolfool fillers, I would in a heartbeat as they are great fillers, easy to install and a overall great product. MIKE does have a great product, no doubt.

If a customer ask which is the best fitting, I would do GBodyParts.com soft front with spoolfool rear.

How many posters have installed both spoolfool and GBodyParts.com fillers?

On a side note, I do not feel that if using fiberglass fillers, and in a accident, that they will damage the rear or front sheet metal significantly, they will break before doing any large amount of damage. Do we have anybody that can verify this, as this is my opinion.

Thanks
Bill

Mine car is not yet finished. I'm doing a full frame restoration and the shop is taking their time now. (winter coming up) However, the tech that did the fitment for them said the fit was almost perfect out of the box. Said they had to do very little work on them (front and/or rear) to line-up properly.

Imo, I think it depends on what look you want. A matter of preference so to speak.... I had a couple sets of "soft" fillers on my car. The set that was on it when I bought it. (and they looked like ass) Then I had the entire car done. I put new soft fillers on it. In 98 that's all that was around. (or at least that's all I could find) I thought the fit sucked. The rear filler was two pieces and it overlapped in front of the license plate and in a year or so it warped and looked awful. The fronts didn't match up that well with the header panel and the bumper. But that's what you get when you only spend 5k to have the entire car done. I guess back then they looked okay, but over time from the heat and cold they warped and cracked, then they just looked like shit. When I decided to do a full frame restoration, I stripped the rubber off the bumpers, filled in all the holes with weld. When they stripped off the wheel well trim they welded up all the holes and smoothed out the wheel wells. (imo I think wheel well trim is out dated) I want a real clean look with nice straight defined lines and the fiberglass bumper fillers really helps to give it that look. But, like I said in the beginning, it's a matter of preference.

Yeah Chris I agree on the wheel well trim also . my car was done that way too I like it better without trim .,

Definitely Spoolfool's fillers if you want the best in the business......just don't bump into something with your bumper, as they are fiberglass......still, most beautiful, perfect fine specimen car part I've ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on .......Mike is one hell of a perfectionist and it shows......

If you just have a daily driver, go with rubber fillers, as if you hit something at low speed, you won't ruin your fillers, lights, right and left fenders, headlight bezels and all that stuff.

But, if you are a very careful driver, go with Mike's.....you just can't get any better fillers ANYWHERE. They come painted black, and fit perfect! Man, I wish I were a perfectionist, but every time I try to be one, I drop the part, usually on a hard concrete floor!

PS: How's that for a plug, Mike?;)

Bruce,
Thanks for the plug. Your kick back check will go out in the mail tomorrow.:D
However, Spoolfool fillers are not sold painted. They just look like it.;) That is a gloss black jel coat. They are meant to be painted. However, 80% of the people who buy these just put them on their car as is, or until they're ready to paint the whole car.

As for damage to fenders or quarter panels, do to the fillers not giving in before the steel does. So far, I know of at least five cars that have gotten into minor accidents, where the filler absorbed the impact before the body panel did. I believe that Highway Stars did an independent test on this also. In most of these cases, The filler was easily repaired with fiberglass.

Thumper,
You asked to see what my fillers should look like where they meet the header panel. Here ya go.

These fillers shown are not painted. As you can see, they are slightly greyer than my black paint. There is no reason that all cars shouldn't be able to be lined up like this.

I made a "flex point" at the corner. This should allow about a 1/8" of adjustment in either direction. If your car has been hit, or is not close to this adjustment range, simply re shim the front of the fender back into range.

I have never held one of Gbody's fillers in my hand. However, I have heard nothing but good things about their stock style fillers.
Right now, the market is FLOODED with very poor quality fillers that sell for dirt cheap. Resist this temptation. I hear the horror stories all the time.:arghh:

Also, stay away from buying old used original fillers. Once you take them off a car, they will crumble with in weeks or months.

Happy spooling.:)
