I'm doing a new motor for my GN, and I need to sell my original to help fund the project.

I have a currently-running 160,000 mile, unopened 109 long-block in my '87 GN. The car is still semi-daily driven, and uses a quart of oil or so every 800-1000 miles. Haven't done a compression test, but it's got some leakdown, as the oil does have a distinct gas smell when I change it. This car has been in the family since new, and the oil was changed RELIGSIOUSLY by my dad and I every 2500-3000 miles, occasionally longer when driven on long cross-country trips.

Motor is quiet with no knocks or weird noises. I put a high-volume, high pressure pump about 6 months ago, but that was mostly for peace of mind. With the stock pump, I would see 6 lbs of oil pressure at hot idle, and it would rise about 10 PSI for every 1000 RPMs.

The only kicker is, I need the the crankshaft ONLY, so this would be sold without it. I have no need for the rods and pistons, so they would go to the buyer with the motor.

Anyone know what I could expect to get for this setup? How much more would I get if I included the crank?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

If it's the original numbers matching block, rebuild and keep it, don't get rid of it.

It is an original matching numbers block, but for me, selling is the best way to go, as I have access to a great deal on a rebuilt motor. I simply can't afford to have a local builder do mine at the going rate and don't have a garage or the tools to do it myself.

That said, any idea what mine could be worth, with and without crankshaft?

worth more sitting in the corner of a shed if you ever sell the car. without the crank and 160,000 using oil.its a 2-$250.00 motor. basically a core. Do yourself a favor and keep it around.

in my opinion block is worth$350 rods and pistons basically nothing or $50 if your lucky. front cover $75. oil pan $75 crank if it is uncut $300

but i agree with these guys your better off keeping it all. older cars worth the most have their original drivetrains with them

This is a parts for sale forum. Not whats it worth. You should post these questions in the lounge. $500-1000 is common.

Sorry...I thought this would be the appropriate place to ask about values, since people have those things in mind when in this section.

Thanks for the breakdown on this.

Value of the car doesn't matter to me, as it will never be sold. It belonged to my father who bought it brand new in 1987, and he left it to me when he passed away. It's got more sentimental value than anything, and it would take a ridiculous offer (which is unlikely) to get me to part with it.

I just need to replace a tired motor!

If you have access to a great deal on a rebuilt motor why not buy that to sell and then have the numbers matching block rebuilt with that money. Then you'll have maybe make a couple bucks and have a rebuilt numbers matching block.

Hmm...Hadn't thought of that! That's a pretty good idea!

I agree with you on this...real good idea.
