I couldn't seem to get my converter slip calculator to work.

At 100 MPH, I'm at 5625 RPMs in third gear. I've got a 373:1 gear with a 28" tall tire.

Thanks Mike B.

Are you ready, I remember your 62/65 dyno post and commented on the converter probably slipping too much.

25% SLIPPAGE!!!!!!

Ouch, told you the Art Carrs can't compete anymore. Time for a 9.5" PTC and get it down around 4%. PM Dusty Baker, you'll find INSANE power and E.T. from taking this dud out of your trans.

You need to know your slip at higher than 100mph. More like 115-120mph. It probably wont couple to you hit 5800-5900. I had one in a couple years ago and it slipped 16% on a 126mph pass. PTC 9.5" converters work much better. The one in my sig slipped 3% at 134mph and the engine has about 680hp.

well,

At 116 MPH it's buzzing at 5925 RPMs.

Ok, well it's starting to tighten up which is what many Art Carrs do for some reason. It's like their setup for Import FI cars and get better as you whine it out. Hello, it's in a GN. :o

But it's already done at 116mph, I don't like the idea of running 6k especially when the converter is just not making it worth the risk of running that rpm.

And take into account that the car spends WAY more time in the lower rpm range meaning that slippery beast is slugging it's way up to those rpms. :(

Bison is right though. 1/8 mile slip #'s will be much higher than 1/4 mile slip #'s because the converter hasn't fully coupled yet.

What would this be?

1/8 A/C 9' "O" Trim Converter 28.5 Tire, 5957 RPM, 109mph, MAP 314KPA, 342 gears, TH400

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm showing 36%

Yeah. His car goes about 140 in the quarter so his converter more than likely couples better than at the eighth. Eight numbers always suck because the ratio change occurs not too far from the timing beam. Still looser than it needs to be especially if a hydraulic cam.

My best mph in the 1/4 has been 134. 30psi

My best 1/8 mph has been 109mph it ran 6.39 with 1.47 60ft 30psi

With my new alum heads the car doesn't spool well at all. Very very slow.
I ran it once at the track since I removed the ac, added a fuel cell and fuel rails
along with a new speed density chip. The car ran a 1.42 60ft 6.38@107mph 30psi with
The 83's at 100% the log showed them maxed out after I came off the Tbrake.

I'm just trying to get an idea on the converter. I still need some tunning time
with this new SD Chip before I get an accurate rpm mph for a new converter "XFI" lol

After you get some more data, get with me. If what you have isn't working for you, I'll get you something that will;)

Just for fun.

I just downloaded a run off my Directscan. Here's the slippage through all of third gear with my 9", 3000ish stall, billit Art Carr non lockup converter.

MPH- RPM- SLIP
----- ----- -----

70--- 5075-- 62%
80--- 5200-- 45%
90--- 5375-- 33%
100-- 5625-- 26%
110-- 5825-- 18%
118-- 6100-- 15%

Note: I just dynoed my car last weekend. It made peak power (507 RWHP) at about 5500 RPMs. I know that I need some slip to keep the engine up in this power band. Just not sure how much? Also, I do like the streetability of this converter. My car drives like a stocker in stop and go traffic and gets over 20 mpg on the freeway. This car is 99.9% street driven. I havent had my car to the track yet with this new engine. I'm at the point where it should be in the high ten second range. Right now, it looks like I may need to shift to OD at about 1000 ft. I'm guessing that a better converter might help this. I can go back to a higher gear in the rear end, but realy like the streetability of my 3.73 gear with a 28" tall tire. All thoughts appreciated.

Mike you can go back to the 342's or a bigger housing on the turbo or like you said maybe a converter.
I ran into this same issue. It would always change, sometimes I could get it down the track in 3rd and sometimes I would need to shift to OD just before the lights. I went to 342's and 28.5 tall tires.

You shouldnt be maxed on the 83's yet. Maybe the g-force from the launch was to much for the pump to deal with initially. You should be able to go 143-145 before your on the edge with C16. With oxygenated fuel like Q16 maybe 141-142. Your quarter mph and eighth mph is nearly identical to mine and i ran 28.5psi with the iron heads. My duty cycle with 83's, Q16, and a decent shot of meth was 65-67%. With C16 its around 58-60% with the meth. Without the meth i would suspect 72-74%.
