Whats My Rear End Ratio??

I need to know what gears my car has. I know that it's on the gear itself and it's supposed to be stamped on the rear end, I could never find it on the rear end and I'm not gonna take off the diff cover just to find out.

Is there a number in the VIN that is a reference? Or does anyone know what gear would have come in a 1983 Regal Limited with a V6 ( non turbo) the rear is a 7.5 non posi....

Thanks I need this info to tell the gear guy, I think I'm gonna go with 3.42 unless my gear is real low like 2.32 or somthin.....

Just jack the car up and scribe a reference line on the driveshaft. Put another line on the inside of one of your rear tires. Rotate the driveshaft and count how many times it turns for every one revolution of your tire. That'll give you a good idea of what your ratio is.

Check your trunk option sticker. Look for a GU2, GU4, GU6 or a GM8, something like that.

With that code, we can tell you what axle ratio you have.
