What's the best route for external waste gate

I would like to switch to an external gate on my Gn. Should I just come off the small waste hole on housing thru gate to down pipe? Or is it better to not use the housing port, and go from the header to gate to down pipe? Does one way give any better control? I have a 70 p-trim turbo & may step up to a Q-trim down the road, also using ATR headers. Thanx for any info!

you will have more control and less backpressure if you run the wastegate off of the header and vent the outlet to the ground.
 
Maybe so but this is a street car, is it really worth coming off the header to down pipe- vs - waste gate hole to down pipe? Thanx
 
Don't think it's gonna matter. The old ATR downpipes used the wastegate hole on the turbine housing.

Do it whichever way feel like doing it.

Thanx for the info Dusty! So if you were to make a new down pipe from scratch would you dump from the header or waste hole? What do you like for a waste gate,I'm looking at a Turbonetics race gate? any others you think are better? Thanx Charlie

If I designed my own V6 headers I'd dump from the header right at the turbine housing. Race gates always work well. Lots of guys are using the Tial products also.
 
What do you mean Sureg? Off the crossover?

On the back pressure issue. This is true but high back pressure is only an issue at high boost levels. When you crank the boost up the wastegate is mostly closed so the backpressure difference should be minor. Running the external before the turbine housing allows the exhaust to vent before it enters that small 3 bolt housing.

Thanx again Dusty, that's what I think I'll do - come from the header - waste gate - to down pipe. Happy new year! Charlie
 
would venting out the waste gate hole in the exhaust housing drive the turbo any better than venting off the header?
