What's the deal with all the cars at the side of the roads?

Hey guys, we cruised up the east side of Oahu up to the North Shore area and noticed a lot of cars just sitting at the side of the road stripped down to almost nothing, some were crashed up, some weren't, some were in beach area parking lots, some right out in front of people's houses at the road too.
What's the deal with that? Just wondering.

Thats what some people do here, just park the car somewhere and leave it. Some are stolen but most are left by the owners. Once someone leaves a car, others will start dumping all kinds of crap, refrigerators, stoves, etc. I don't know why they can't just take it to a dump or landfill, its pretty bad that you just got here and noticed that stuff. Hows the rest of your vacation going?

So far not too bad except our trip to Maui Monday was a bust, poured heavy rain most of the day, with no sun we decided to head up to the half way point on the Road to Hana...it rain so hard that one of the streams came up over one of the bridges, like 7 ft almost and had to sit there and wait for the water to receed before we could drive across. Finally got sun today for the first day, but we have done all kinds of things around Oahu since the sun wasn't out. I know when we come back, I'll spend more time up on the North and East side, its beautiful there. The waves at the North Shore yesterday were incredible. Met one of my wife's friends today and relaxed on the beach after a submarine ride. We're out of here tomorrow evening though, thanks again for a very nice trip, Hawiian's are the most friendlyest people I have met in my travels around the world.
