I need a fuel pump for my 87 GN. I checked around and find stock AC Delco are still available and buying through www.gmpartsdirect.com they are cheap ($61.00). After verifying the part number with the local Buick dealer and asking them if everything is included with the part I get this response "It just says pump, I would assume thats everything since it doesnt say anything else."

I go ahead and order the pump and thats EXACTLY what I get, the pump, nothing else except a piece of paper telling me I need to change the strainer when I do the pump.

I stop by the Buick dealer today to ask them if the sending unit is available and if it includes the sock. After ten minutes he just gives me a price of $500.00 and cant guarantee that it does not come with the pump or that it does come with the strainer.

Finally I ask if I can just buy a strainer (and hope my hoses arent dry rotted from storage). He says they discontinued the strainer but not the pump.

Anyone have a nice strainer laying around that they wouldnt mind shipping to me by Thursday? :)

You should have gone to one of the Turbobuick vendors that advertise on this site. They'll take care of you, unlike GM that doesn't have anyone left that knows about these cars. If you have any modifications, that pump won't be able to keep up with the horsepower level your car is now putting out.

That's why you should go through one of the Buick vendors for parts...most GM dealers don't know anything about our cars anymore and really don't care...GMPartsDirect is good if you know the part number and exactly what you're getting with that number...you can also go through one of the few GM dealers that offer discounts to the Buick guys...just curious and don't take offense but why would you ever want to replace the pump with a stock one...IMO they are junk...invest in a good Walbro kit from one of the vendors and get everything you need...

No offense taken. I am changing out the stock one for a stock one. My car is completely stock and I am going to keep it that way for the time being.

If I need anything in the future I will be getting it from a sponsor of this site.

There is a very good reason GM still has the fuel pump available, they are junk. Changing out to a walbro has no effect on originality or the way the car will run, it just helps your car survive better. I urge you to return the stock pump, spend the very small difference and do it right the first time around. You'll thank all of us later and the walbro will come with everything you need, including the sock.

Unfortunately I cant return it per the sites rules on electrical parts.

I shafted myself on this one but have learned a lesson. When this pump dies or when I choose to do any upgrades I will move on to the Walboro pump.
