What's the diff in an 85 and an 87 tranny?

I know the turbo cars had a different tranny than the hot airs. My question is when you do the typical high perf. rebuild on the tranny (clutches, servos, drum, etc.) are they all equal? I ask because I am looking at a rebuilt tranny out of an 85.
