What's the difference between Stageright Transbrake and Neutral dropping?

A good launch vs. a catastrophic failure.

When you activate a trans-brake, you are engaging low and reverse gears simultaneously. In neutral, you don't have any clutches applied.

The forward clutch is not designed to be a 'dynamic shifting' clutch. The friction plates have better static holding abilities and will fail prematurely having to stop a quickly rotating forward drum. Also, because none of the transmission components are preloaded, they will have a tough time living through the instant shock load.

More importantly, for the purposes of a good launch, you are not loading the converter. This causes two problems on our cars.
  • No torque multiplication - If the input shaft is not held, the stator will overrun and will provide no torque multiplication.
  • No Boost - Self explanatory. :p

Not much different. The Stage Right takes off on the low sprag when you hit shifter to second so. in turn it is doing the same thing. Ask Lonnie Dyers..... He has first hand knowledge of this....

Sprag still takes the load. Period.

So all in all, a Transbrake is safer for your trans? If so, how much safer?

I will try not to start a fire fight with the stageright guys but these are the facts. The stageright works as advertised. the stageright is easier on the tranny than a nutral drop. As far as what it does to the low roller there is not much difference. There are some that have had good luck with them but there are many who have removed them and many who have broken parts. That transbrake holds the low clucthes and direct when in the brake mode. Note there is no load on the low roller clutch (sprag) When you move the shifter it releases direct and low clutches and hammers the low roller sprag. So it kinda like a nutral drop. Buy a better brake and you will not regret it or stick to the footbrake and yes it will be as easy as you can be on a trans with a brake.
