Anyone know what this scam is?

Thanks for getting back to me.Am interested and i will like to buy this item so please do withdraw the advert.I will also like you to know that i will be paying via check due to the distance as i am located in Kansas.I will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.

1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address(residential)
3.Your phone number.

I will also like you to know that you will not be responsible for shipping,i will have my shipper come over as soon as you have cashed the check.....Await your response as soon as possible. Thanks"

Maybe just giving them your address. If you cash the check, they collect the goods then the check is returned. Cant they get your checking account number from the check once you deposit it, with that and all the requested info they will have a bunch of stuff about you.

As I see it, the only part that could be a scam is the "as soon as you cash the check" part. If the check is no good it will take your bank a few days to find out at which point your furniture is gone.

Tell them they can either show up with cash or wait until the check clears.

They are in Kansas so I told them by brother is driving there for a move and I can put it on the truck to save on shipping. No word back from him so I know it's a scam.

Yes its some sort of scam. My brother and I have been selling some of my Mom's furniture on CL and have received the exact same emails. I guess they are wanting to pick up loads of furniture for free by giving you fake checks.
Ours ads say cash only accepted at pickup. So we email them back saying "what part of cash only do you not understand moron?" We never get a response.
I like how they try to get you to pull the ad too... What they are asking for they can find in the phone book so it must be a fake check they are paying with in hopes to get free furniture...they must operate a stolen furniture store or something.

Craig's List has huge warnings about scams. I've had a few scam emails when selling on CL. They're fishing for fools and I'm sure they get a few. I just send back "local pickup only" and they never return. Probably located in Nigeria anyway.

Same scam that folks get caught up in with cars and E-bag. Nothing new here, just a different product.

They don't want your furniture, they want your money! They send you a check which looks good by the way, and have you deposit it, the check will clear normally, then they'll want you to keep the amount for your furniture and Western Union or Money Gram them the rest to the shipping company which will pick up the furniture, which is really them. The check will clear at your bank but not at the issuing bank, now you owe the bank the full amount. You get screwed and they get to keep the shipping money. I recently received a company check for $4000 for a car I was selling for $1500, that's $2500 for the scammer. I've never been taken, but I'm sure other people have, be careful! Cash only, don't take any kind of check... EVER!
