When replacing front A-arm bushings, is this needed?

Is the Upper Offset Shaft needed when replacing the upper and lower A-arm control bushings?
Its listed as a separate part on globalwest's web site for the upper and lower kits and its about $61.

If you are going with stock bushings you don't need the offset shaft. I installed the upper bushings last week with no problems. Plus you'll save some money.

Rob,

The offset shaft is for people wanting more negative camber without a big stack of shims. The shafts usually don't need replacement, unless the bushings have come completely apart and there is metal to metal contact. The car would be scary to drive in this circumstance (it would drive like a front wheel was coming off) so I doubt they are damaged.

Could you detail the steps you took to replace the upper bushings? I have that job waiting in the garage!

I dont have enough adjustment without the offset upper shafts to get the alignment set close.

Car Craft has an article on replacing a-arm bushings this month. Still at the news stands. Its on a Nova, but all the GM's look the same.
