When will someone make some good weatherstripping?

Wow, I wonder if I got a dud or something. Maybe I'll make a video later and show you guys what I'm talking about. I think I'll save a few bucks and give the Metro stuff a shot. I've seen so many people praising the G Body T top seals. Some people may say it is my install technique, but I'm actually pretty handy (see my build thread if you doubt that) and the install seemed straight forward.

Soff seal here, complete junk on the t-top seals, but the door and trunk seals are ok I've had everything on the car for almost three years and haven't glued anything in yet hoping something decent will come along...Mike

Metro is the closest after market company that ive seen fit. It's not perfect but with some weatherstrip adhesive, 3m kind it's worked good. I've had a friend that did his entire t top in NOS gm and he daily drove it. After about a year the rubber cracked it was garbage.

I was having a conversation with Heath Elmer over this the other week. I was kicking myself for not buying NOS and he told me that most NOS stuff is hard and brittle by now. I guess you're damned if you do, damned if you don't. I'm going to see if he can give me some tips and see if I'm missing something. Otherwise, I may just save up for another set and cross my fingers.

Good to know.

Brian at g-body works hard to bring us great products, and products that aren't even on the market. It's unreal what he brings to us. Have you contacted him about your issues? He's a stand up guy that stands behind his stuff.

I bought the new Gbody T-Top rubber, and other than having to readjust the fit..it seals great...
I would buy again..

I can call and talk to him. The fact that I had the weatherstripping for a year before I had a chance to put it on and then glued it in once it seemed to fit well means I have no leg to stand on as far as product support goes. BTW, I have no intentions of basking G Body Parts. Brian works hard to bring us great parts and he has been great to me as far as customer support goes. He even took care of me when I opened my box of weatherstripping 6 months after I bought it to find out my outer dew sweeps were missing. Brian investigated and sent me a set. Most vendors these days would say "tough". I'm just complaining about the fact that the weatherstipping isn't working for me. I'm starting to wonder if there is a quality control issue with the manufacturer.

Update. I got back from a long vacation and started looking again. If I take the t tops off and put up the windows I get a decent seal. The big problem here seems to be that the t top outer seals (the strips that seal the t tops to the top of the windows) that I got are just way too hard. I mean they are tough like a heater hose. They push the windows out and even cause problems when I roll them up. So what I'm going to do is order the Metro t top outer seals and try them out if they are softer. I'll keep y'all posted.

I am the one person who raised a stink about how crappy those aftermarket seals G-Body carries (roof rail and door). They fit terrible, are to soft, have no internal support, and don't form to the windows like the GM seals do. I got no help from Brian since they were glued in. I did not even bother installing them on the pass side. Either buy the expensive GM seals or wait till the GM reproduction models are available.

Highway Stars does not have original. I read awhile back that they were working with a vendor resolve the issues with the aftermarket stuff, but I don't think that went anywhere.
T-Top and door seals no. Roof rail yes GM original.

Same here, my outer top seals are a good 3/4" too short and they're too hard to stretch enough , even with spacing the the front and rear body seals it's still not enough...Mike

Which ones are yours?
I forget where I ordered them from, but if I remember it was a kit with metro super soft door and trunk seals, and soft seal ttop seals. I'll have to dig thru my receipts...Mike

Anyone got any tips for putting door weatherstripping in correctly? Guy who owned my car before me installed new stripping on both doors but its not in right and needs adjustment. He did not glue it yet. Looking for kind of a run down....

Clean both surfaces really good before gluing them in and a little glue goes a long way. Follow the lines of the old weatherstrips if you can see them. The glue itself can be a real mess so keep a towel handy to clean up the strings. I would also take the door panels or at least cover them up with a trash bag.
