where do i wire in the caspers knock guage?

Do i tap into the ecm wiring for the yellow/black stripe wire. or do i have to go under the hood?

I have one in my 8 gauge package and the instructions with my dash said to tap in directly at the sensor wire under the hood. It works fine.
