I have been looking all over for one to tune my alky system and cannot find one. Everybody says they got one at their local auto parts store but I cant find one and no one has even heard of them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You mean the little vacuum hand-pump?

I bought a really nice metal-bodied one at Auto Zone last year. It's a little more than the plastic ones but I like it better. It was part of their Load-A-Tool program, but you pay full price then bring it back if you want to. I just never brought it back. Just used it today to check my EGR system.

I ended up getting mine from Summit a while back when I was ordering some other stuff. If you can wait the two days or so, I know Summit sells them. And I have seen them before at NAPA in there little tool displays.

I went to Auto Zone and they looked like I was asking for a piece of the moon

Are you guys all using the hand pump ones? I always assumed they were electric for some reason

our local harbor freight tool store sells them. if you dont have a local harbor freight i know they have an online store at www.harborfreight.com they have one listed in the automotive section under the misc. automotive tools for somewhere around $60. good luck, aaron

Ok, I'll be the first to ask, what the hell is a Mighty Vac? Does it clean the carpet at your house or what?

Yeah, I'll second that.

What the hell does this thing do? :D

I mean, I have a rough idea, but...

It is a hand operated pump for bleeding brakes from what I understand. I thought they were electric for some reason. So when using it to set my alcohol activation switch I will also have to get some form of boost gauge to put in the line also?

Get the "turbo test kit" one, since it can do vac and pressure, also has a little gauge on top. You'll need the pressure capability someday. The Mity Vac co is hq in San Antonio, TX. I used to work across the street from 'em. www.mityvac.com. Unfortunately I don't see the turbo test kit listed on the website, so might oughta call 'em and ask, or wait until I can get the PN off the box for mine.

From the website:

Please place your order with:

So are most of you guys using the brake bleeder one (metal) that comes with the case and gauge for ~ $60?
They have a lot of different kits and I want to get the right one. It looks like the cooling system one would do pressure but not vacuum, correct?

Ok, I finally saw one today. It looks like the best one would be the Silverline 4050, with the gauge for boost and vacuum. Or the Silverline 4010, but I would need an addt'l gauge for boost. Are these the models you guys are using?

WOW Mike Thanks a ton. I had just called Mity Vac and the 4050 was $105! Thats half off. I just ordered it:cool:

I mighty vac is a tool used to create artificial vacum. You can use it on vacum operated items to test for operation. With speed bleeders or a one way valve, you can bleed hydraulic type system using only 1 person. A very helpful tool to the part time full time mechanic. Hope this answers the what heck is it question.
