my steering gear has so much play in it that i just want to replace it. does any one know where you can get the correct gear ratio one?

Or just adjust the box and take the play out. Pretty sure our steering boxs have the adjusters on them.

Called a "Lash Adjustment",I believe. There should be a nut on top for that.

I'm figuring you checked all of your front end components first.

Sometimes the box is not bad. It just needs adjustment.

Sometimes it has been ruined by someone who used a pickle-fork to remove your pitman arm, instead of a puller.

front end components are good. i would rather put a new box on than adjust it car has 90,000 on it.

Earlier posrt is correct we do sell rebuilt correct turbo regal gear boxes no cores required as we absorb the core cost. Problem with rebuiltboxes is appearance all look the same so be careful if you buy it elsewhere make sure it is the one for the suspension package quick ratio road feel basic terms I use.

YA is the code that would be on the box originally that wears off.

Think they run about $150.

As suggested you can try adjusting yours which will improve it....but probably not as good as a rebuilt unit depending on the miles on your car.

There are actually 2 adjustments needed for proper adjustment of a Saginaw steering box.

The first one is to remove the snap ring from the front cover and adjust the steering shaft with a spanner wrench.

After that is done, the allen shaft on top of the box can be adjusted to remove any play of the sector shaft.

Just adjusting the sector shaft does not give correct mesh of these parts.

I agree with Dennis, unless you have the tools and some experience, at 100k miles it is best to use a reman unit with new seals, worn parts discarded, and is properly set up by an expert. :)
