Yes, your '83 TR will have a 200-4R OD trans (and a 3.42 7.5" rear).

Remove the lower dash cover under the steering column (if it's still there). Look on top of the column, just below where the column bolts to the dash. It's white, about 4" inches long. There is a part that slides (ratches). You push it over to the passenger side, then work the shifter thru the gears. This should set it correctly.
