I plan on mounting my MAF in the up pipe. I want to find a nicely bent piece of tube with a somewhat smaller bend radius from the stock one to make the fit better. I tried going to a muffler place but their bender produces that pushed in inside radius and the actual radius is somewhat too large. Who sells such things?

Go to your local NAPA and ask to look at their exhaust book. Walker Exhaust is what they sell and they have mandrel bent pipes available. I'm sitting here looking at one part #41432 that is very nicely bent. They are not absolutely perfect, but are generally nicely bent (unlike ones done by your local muffler shop). Dynomax (which is sold by many performance suppliers like Summit/Jegs) is Walker exhaust also. HTH

i'd suggest j.c. whitney (of all companies). i've seen a number of their elbows and they are nice parts and cheap too.

Not sure what you mean but I use a 3" modern MAF with a translator. The stock MAF would simply explode (I think someone tried it). I already did a mockup and the difference is quite big. The throttle response is enormously different without 10 ft of tubing between the MAF and the throttle. Our cars had to be designed this way because of the poor quality MAF available at the time, no reason to leave them that way.

If you do move it the MAT sensor can also be located in the up pipe and used to trim timing in a useful way to offset turbo and IC inefficiency. You need approximately 1 octane number more for every 7 deg C rise in inlet temp which prevents you from running as much timing as you should. As you stay in the boost and the air inlet temps rise, you can pull timing only as needed.

That's why I am moving it.

I am selling 3" up pipes from my site now. Please note that I went with a tighter radius than seen in the pics on this page. Available in aluminum also. I do not put any bead on the end of these and haven't had a problem with hoses blowing off and my GN is in the 24 lb range on a regular basis or at least every time I drive it.

No flame taken! I was just explaining my goal. My mockup didn't work terribly well because the MAF was jammed right onto the IC and most of the flow concentrated off to one side of the MAF element. But despite the completely screwy BLM values the car drove with throttle response better than any car I have driven. The engine was just right there every time I touched the pedal. With the MAF up on the throttle body the rest of the air intake can leak like a sieve and not cause any problems.
