well i NEED a winter car... i really dont want to drive my GN in the snow since i would like to keep this for a little while and not do any body repairs

so i am wondering where is the best place to get a beater for the winter? i would like a truck so i can haul around my dirt bike and would only like to spend LESS than 1000$ i can look like junk, have dents all over i dont care i just need a car that i can drive to florida and not worry about it if i have to!... i love dependable cars!

well if anyone can point me in the right direction to look for one i appreciate it

i already checked on autotrader and what not and it was no help

Talk to the local hole-in-the-wall auto shops.

A buddy of mine has a small shop in Indiana and regularly buys beaters for $100-$500 from people who get fed up with them.

He bought a festiva for $40 and has been driving it for 6 months. In that time I think he's put $20 in gas in it. ;) He backs out of the driveway, revs it a few times, looks in the rear view mirror and if he sees smoke he knows it still has oil in it. I about lost it when he did that and told me that's how he checks the oil.

your a brave man going state to state in an unprove'n car:eek:
but check out xars here in florida, or around where you live, if u have'nt already done that

ahh i meant a car i could drive to florida if i had to... not that i will i just typed it wrong i guess.. i meant it hypothetically speaking so to say

i will check with the small car dealers and see what they have to say... i just didnt know if anyone in MI had one for sale

You need to plan ahead. Take a vacation to the South and go to an auto auction that's open to the public. you can get a rust free late model (late 90's) driver for around $1000-1500.

Drive it for a few years and sell it up north for more than what you paid for it. You'll pay for most of your vacation, too.

Buy a cheap trailer to haul your bike. It's cheaper than a pickup.

Go to any of your local car dealers and ask to take a look at their 'Trade In Line'...Often there are cars that are traded in for under $1000, and dealers will sell you the car for an extra $100 ontop of their cost...Just because they would like to have another car sold for the month.

These cars are MUCH better than buying an Auction Car, because you know that they were driven onto the lot. That means that they are able to be driven....With Auction cars you don't know what your buying....Buying a trade in car allows you to drive the car first..and look into it better than the RUSH RUSH feeling at an Auction.

When you go to your local dealership...ask for the used car manager.....Not a sales person.

Hope this helps.....Remember not to fall in love...there are PLENTY of cars under $1000 out there.

I got something thats dependable enough to go to florida and back and then some. 97 grand am, 2 door. 3.1, 120k, runs great, new intake gasket, head gaskets, ingnition switch, and tune up. I need to get rid of it quick, took it in on a trade and have no use for it. want $2000 obo.

beater

Buy a Mustang.
Cost: Dime a dozen.
Look on the Ford boys face when you tell him it is your beater!
I have been doing it for years. Had 1/2 dozen stangs and the same Buick
