My oil pressure is slow to build up at cold start. The oil filter (Purolator) is empty after it sets awhile. Where can a pre-luber be found, how much are they, and how difficult is the install? Thanks, Joel

A 2-quart Accusump with electric valve will cost you about $270. If you're not familiar with these, it's an aluminum cylinder pressurized by air that holds oil until the engine experiences low pressure or you trigger it with a manual or electric valve. So it has a side benefit in preventing engine damage if you lose pressure briefly while driving (hard cornering or accelleration, etc.). The electric valve is wired to a switch that you hit to lube the motor before startup.

These are in wide use among road-racers and are well-proven. I'm thinking of getting one myself. One drawback is they require a big space for mounting, as the 2-quart model is like 12" long and 4" diameter (the 3-quart model is even longer).

The best prices on them can be found here:

(click on "complete index", then "Accusump").

Moroso makes a similar unit that's a little cheaper. Either variety can sometimes be found on Ebay for less.

I haven't really thought through the install yet, but it seems like it would be pretty easy on our motors, thanks to the exteral hoses for the factory oil cooler. Just tap into one of those with a fitting at the oil filter. You'd probably want to use a one-way valve there somehow so the oil from the accumulator goes into the motor and not the cooler. Such valves are available from Racer Parts Wholesale too.

Let us know if you go this route so we can all learn how you do it!

Matt, they offer checkvalves, wafers, tees, clamps, etc. along with instructions and technical support. The only problem I foresee is providing a location for the cylindrical pressure canister, i.e., its between 12" and 16" long with a guage on the top and roughly the diameter of an oil can. No problem for the front mount guys. Does anyone out there have a pic of the install? Thanks for your interest. Joel

What about mounting the unit behind the grille, on the rad support somewhere, then run the lines behind the pass. side headlight?

Matt, I'm sure that can be done. I just wanted to minimize the length of hose as much as possible since its not cheap. Their technical staff may recommend a location along with installation tips. I haven't contacted them yet. Joel
