Started to put this in the forum with FAST and BigStuff support..... but it doesn't exactly fit there..... and will get alot of exposure here....

I am about to install a fuel pressure sensor and an oil pressure sensor so my powerlogger will have something to keep it busy logging. I got the oil pressure sensor figured out. The fuel pressure sensor is a different animal. I see some mount it in the end of the rail..... which is OK.... but it is ugly and sticks out where it could easily be hit.

For my purpose.... a 95%+ street car......I was thinking about installing a tee in the fuel line down near the engine cross member... where the fuel line pokes out of the frame. It would be out-of-sight there. It might read slightly higher than the pressure at the fuel rail.....but should be close enough for what I want to do no?

maybe mount it on the end of the rail with a 90 or 180 deg fitting?
that should angle or tuck it out of the way

IMOP it fits perfect on the 87 cars with a straight adapter. now on my car it gets ugly since the fitting is on the top of the rail.

I tee'd mine in right ahead of the filter. Can't see how it would read any different than on the rail, same line different place...

why not

remove fuel rail-- weld half of a 1/8 in. NPT coupling in side of rail @ desired location.

I mounted mine on the fuel rail, removed the schrader valve.

think about it,pressure there will always be higher than downstream and not an accurate representation of fuel pressure available at the rail

if the filter becomes clogged or cause a pressure drop (and it will even when new) the pressure before it will not reflect the pressure drop after the filter or of the numerous feed line bends and connector restrictions , i wouldnt be surprised if theres a 3-5psi difference, you really want to know that the rail pressure is 1:1 over boost and holds constant , before the filter wont do it

best is at the rail and must be before the return, ive seen some installed in a tee block at the fuel feed connection off the frame by the steering box , but again it wont show a drop if the rubber line in the engine side fuel line becomes a blockage
if you dont like the look of it at the shrader fitting you can run a 2-3ft braided line to the fender and install the sender there

You need to get the alky one as well.

I personally dont mind the sending unit at the end of the rail, if anything, if that number one cylinder where to starve.. you'd catch it no problem.

I put mine on the end of the fuel rail after the fixed gauge w/ a tee. Dave

julio, just to let you know i got both the pressure transducers and fittings.i will install them thanksgiving day and test them on Friday, Saturday and Sunday

Please do post up results :)

I agree with Razor and others with the end of the rail. Being able to keep an eye on #1 is important. More important than the "look" of the sensor location.

You be amazed how many would go for looks before performance on these cars.. looks is a touchy subject  and the constant battle of looks versus performance

I'm all about neat and clean. The bling.. is something else.

Did you get the car sorted out?
NO i didnt i went over every wire and sensor with the same results. i shoved it in the garage and forgot about it. insulating and drywalling garage for now. i am down to the valvesprings as the issue. going with a roller cam. i either bent a valve or floated a valve when i left it in second gear while racing and didnt realize it

Is anyone nervous about the sensor leaking onto the motor any? A friend told me that he has heard of these sensors having a tendancy to leak from internal problems. I have the Autometer sending sensor to install soon, but was thinking of remoting from the end of the fuel rail, but with a 2' or so line to place the sensor around the firewall around the brake master by the hood hinge.

Any comments or thoughts?

I currently have a feed to a manual gauge at the end of the rail, is there an easy T made to install the sending unit right there?

Thanks,
Mike
