Which is better?

I have an SMC kit. I was wondering which of the two, denatured alcohol or methonal is better. I know Alcohol is cheaper to run around town with but will methonal allow more boost over alcohol? What are the plus and minuses of both? Thanks!

how is alcohol cheaper anywhere you use it ?????

last i looked meth was about $3 a gallon ,
denatured is about $12 a gallon at the lowes-home depot, even if you mix 50/50 with water its $6 a gallon.

Well...I have never bought Meth, so I don't know how much it is. But which is better?

I started on alky/water , then just alky , once i tried meth there was a definite gain in power and ability to max the boost knob , i have no fear of running at 30psi

if your kit can handle it i would go with meth

I've always heard that Methanol gives better results than denatured alch. The issue is, what can your pump safely handle???? I own a new style, progressive SMC kit, and the directions say to use 50/50 denatured/water. I would stick with their directions. You might be able to run Methanol, but maybe the pump seals wont last as long. It's kind of like voiding a new car warranty. Contact SMC and see if you can run straight methanol thru their kit. Let us know what you find out.

I ran straight windshield washer fluid for a while when I was first playing with alky.

Then switched to a denatured, W/W mix. I run just enough W/W fluid to let folks think that it's just W/W fluid in the tank.

Getting methonal around here isn't easy. So while $, with a F/M I don't need alot of fluid added to the mix, so for the moment, I'm more then pleased using denatured alky.

FWIW, 24 PSI, 24d timing, and 89 Octane.
