I am currently in the process of selling my 355 so I can do a Buick motor swap.

Now I have this option to buy a 85 motor with computer and everything for $700. I could go this route or should I go ahead and get a newer motor ( 86-up ) and do this?

I am totally ingorant to this subject so any help would be appreciated.

Here is what my engine bay should look like after it is all said and done.

Ok

ok im going to be honest with you. i would do the 87 motor with out a question. it is to dam.n hard to make these hot air motors go fast. look at all the mods i have with this on a intercooled 86-87 motor i should be running low 11's. it is much easer to get a intercolled motor to run faster. people are going to say well just get a hotair motor (84-85) and put the intercooler kit on it. personally whats the point why dont u just get a motor that already has one on it. I love my hotair car and i will never put a intercooler on it because what would be the point of owning a hot air if i wanted an intercooler i would have got a 86-87 gn not a 84. so my opinion on this is get a 86-87 motor period

brent:cool:

get a complete 86/7 engine and transmission.the best thing would be to get everything from a wrecked/parted out car, wiring and all.

casper's makes aftermarket wiring if you need it.

you will probably want to go with a bolt in 12 bolt or 9" rear, the turbo 6 torque will shell that glass rear end in a hurry.:)

good luck.

I would start with an 86 motor if you have the choice. But I think the hotairs are just as easy to go fast in, you just have to be more creative since there are less parts made specifically for them.

um.. boost you should be running 11s with that hotair style

drew ran 11.80s with essentially a big turbo, a big DP, and a v3, appropriate fuel system mods

i ran the 13.6 with a k&n, a chip, home made cold air, and open exhaust. most other hotair guys cant bust the 14s with that, but thats not because the car isnt capable.. ;)

Didn't know if you seen my sig or not but I already have a moser 9" and a Coan race built TH400 tranny. My car has made 471 RWHP and 618 RWTQ. It has also been 11.86@ 121mph on street tires with a 2.1 60 ft. I am just looking to put a turbo 6 in my car to 1. save weight, 2. be a sleeper 3. Cause I know these motors are bad son of a guns. :D

Thanks for the info though. :)

nope,didn't even look:D.

what gears are you running in your 9"?you will want to run between 3.2-3.5(stock gn's use 3.42) with a turbo car.turbos like to "lean" on the gear, the higher load makes them spool/run better.plus, they're not high winders(~5500),so you want to make sure you're not out of gear before then end of the 1/4.

you should be fine with the t400(stall?).at least you won't have to worry about breaking it.:)

btw, what combo did you have to run those kinds of times?a friend of mine just bought a '94 lt1/m6.

Well for the skinny on my car you can go to www.hustonstreetracing.com click on teh 93 Z

My combo at the time was a 355 with rasied compression 150 shot of n20. Not alot but enough. :D Also at the time the car was a 6 speed.

Now it has a coan 2800-3200 stall. I have 3:70 gears in the car right now, but I think I am getting ready to change to 3:50. I still drive the car alot and I drive it too and from the track.
