Which optics??

Which rifle optics would you pick ??
1 aimpoint m4s
2 Trijicon acog
3 A 1-4x scope (Burris, Nikkon, Trijicon etc.)

For 50 yard range mostly, sometimes 100 yard range.
I'm open to any bang for the buck optics.

Best bang for the buck? Is this just paper work or are you going to use it for hunting? I've got a 1.5-6 power 30mm scope that I love and it works in really low light, like moon light. The ironic thing is it's a chineese knock off and it's just as good as the name brand ones. I'd love to have a Zeiss or Swarovsky but I don't have the cash. You might also want to look at SWFA.com for deals as well as Nachez. I've gotten some really great deals from both of them on scopes.

I agree with what Charlie has said. If this is just for target shooting, it's really hard to be a nice 3-12 power 30mm to 40mm style scope. If you have a Cabela's near you, I would recommend checking out their Alpha 3-12x40 scope.

Typically this scope goes on sale during holiday sales and can be had for $79.99. I actually own 4 of them for my various rifles and bought them all at that sale price. They are produced by Nikon for Cabela's. Very nice scope, crystal clear and very good range with the up to 12 power zoom. Not too large and perfect for 50 - 100 yard target shooting. Now, if you were going to war or looking for a sight that will withstand serious abuse, then the ACOG and Aimpoint M4S will definitely get the job done. Really depends on your intended use and budget. I would stick with a basic scope if it were me.

Forgot to say that the 1.5-6 power has a 30mm tube and a 56mm bell on it. I learned a long time ago about to much power when I took my club rifle deer hunting one year. A 6-24 scope at less than 2oo years just shows a lot of hair and it's hard to tell where you really need to hit. That's when I got the 1.5-6 and it's my favorite scope out of all that I own.

I do paper shooting only ,no hunting. A 1-4x or 1.5-6x would be
more than enough for 50-100yard range ?? 200 yards too??
I was at cabelas checking out the Nikkon m-223 maybe I'll take
a closer look.

Well your first two picks are in a TOTAL different class than #3!

An Acog or Aimpoint are both precision military grade optics! Either would work great at that distance... You are talking 500-1000+ range though... Also they are more a combat or target acquisition friendly than "precise," which don't get me wrong the are extremely accurate!

For a budget scope, again depends on the price... Also, a nikon m-223 scope is a great little piece for the price! It is a total different application than the Acog or aimpoint you mentioned first though.... With the first two you can shoot with both eyes open, while the m-223 is one eye blah blah blah....

A low powered scope give you the advantage of being able to place the shots better. Like I said, I learned that the hard way with to much power. There are also 2-7X scopes that would work well in a short distance and on my 22 Mag I've got a 3-9X that's set for 30 yards and hits perfectly at 100 as well, which is what I consider max for a 22 mag.

Well just want to update this thread .I went to cabelas to check out their optics.
The salesman at Cabelas recommended me the vortex strike fire red dot optics.So
I picked it up , seems like a good choice from all reviews I read about it .
I do admit I still have an itch for the acog.

Aim point comp m4/m4s, always on 8yr battery life is nice!! I have an m4 and it is a fast optic, I didn't like the acog they just look weired ..The 1-4s are decent, I am fond of Trijicon they have great glass, love my 2.5-10x56 mil-dot

Nothing mentioned above are serious paper puncher scopes. Since the target is NOT moving, you want the most power you can get (within reason). I had a Leupold 6.5 - 24 x 50mm on several guns (including my McBros 50bmg) and I could see 223 holes at 200 yards. It you can't see the holes, how can you make adjustments unless you also have a decent spotting scope? Now I agree on hunting a 3-9 is plenty. I sell guns and scopes at Gander Mountain and the Zeiss and Swar's are real nice, so are Nightforce but all are big $$$. That Cabelas above looks like a decent scope - just depends on how serious about paper holes you are. Red dots are not serious target scopes.
