Going to upgrade to 30 spine axles and have been looking at the eaton posi units. Need input guys. Car will be mainly street driven but 2-3 times a year at the track with transbrake launches . There are many different eaton units out there ! Part numbers please on ones that work the best Also what gear seat? Going with 3.42s again but been looking at richmond gears and several others. all input is appreciated! I do not want to run a spool. Thanks Daniel Ray

Not sure on part # but i went with an eaton an got the complete kit an kept the factory gears . Its been working fine for 5-6yrs

I just put a 30-spline Eaton in my GN. Along with 30-spline Moser axles. Also did a TA girdle cover and stud kit.

Just FYI, the Eaton is a large hub and YOU WILL need special carrier bearings for it. I was unaware and ordered the standard install kit and had to order new ones. Luckily a local parts warehouse stocked them. Also be easy with the crosspin bolt. Mine broke and I had to track down a SnapOn truck to get the removal tool. Been working great so far.

Eaton requires that you use conventional fluid with its diffs. I used some Amalie 80w90 my buddy had in his shop.

I knew about the bearings but thanks for the heads up anyway! What you just did is exactly what I am doing lol, with the cover and all. I talked to a guy at powertrain.com yesterday about aurburns and eatons and I am getting my unit from them. Going with the eaton unit and he said they have the bearings for the carrier. No one has said anything about the gears? I am looking at richmonds or motives. Both are suppose to be excellent sets. Thanks for the heads up on the fluid, I have done bought royle purple so I will take it back and get some regular fluid for it. Still need to add the additive to it though right? Thanks Daniel Ray

without going into a lot of detail

If I were you and set on after market gears--go with Richmond--I had a night mare with some Motives a few years ago with noise. They tried to work with me but to no avail --ended up refunding my $. I have the exact setup you are going for--30 spline Eaton--30 spline Moser --TA cover. I had an electric trans brake a few years ago and let my son have it as I was afraid of busting the posi unit on launches. I did launch with it one season. My son had a spool. From my experience factory gears will run quiter than after market gears. Best of luck.---Lee

Check with Otto's Performance for a price quote on the posi and axles. He gave me a good price, just haven't made up my mind on what/when I want to do.

I just reused my original gears with the new parts. No problems yet. As far as the additive goes, the Amalie fluid I used said it had posi additive in it, but I dumped the GM stuff in it as well since I already had it. That and I wasnt sure of how much was in the gear oil itself. The bearings I bought were $50 so it wasnt too bad.

Same as what Ive heard. Id stick to the factory gears unless they're too far worn or you break one.
