I built this game system just to see if I could. Not sure if you're familiar with it or not. This is a stand up game in the local bars. I bought the board, buttons. etc and figured out how to use the TV as a monitor. Plus I really love playing this Golf game if we're out.
Anyway, I sold it on e-bay, packaged it up real nice and took it to UPS. The guy at the counter puts his hand about waist high and says, "Can it fall from about this high"?

I use to work for UPS, and the way packages were thrown around in the hub and on the belts was astonishing... to the point that I dont even use them if I can help it. And Im a Power Seller on eBay.. shipping stuff ALL the time. I always go USPS.

I use to work for fedex ground... its not much better there...

dhl was the worst. first big package I sent (which was the 3rd pkg I ever sent thru them, and the very last one as well), got busted. of course, they refunded me for the item + shipping (which none of the other carriers do), but still, customer wasn't real thrilled when he got the item broke into bits.

USPS all the way, in the 25 years I've been shipping stuff, I've had the smallest amount of problems with them. (like maybe 5 packages in all that time).

for real fragile items, double box them. pack the item REAL tightly in the first box using as much padding as possible. then put it into an outer box thats at least 3" bigger than the 1st one ALL the way around, and again, pack tight with a ton of padding (bubble wrap, styrofoam... 50 pounds of wadded up paper, lol).

The BEST suggestion I can give?
NEVER write "fragile" on the box!
If you get an employee/driver having a bad day, well, you can about guess the rest... and NO, I'm NOT kidding about that

It happens at USPS too. I saw Priority packages fall into gaylords on skids from 7 foot high conveyor. the 1st packages in you could hear brakage and see them get squished as the rest went in.
