Heres the stroy I've got a whining noise that is almost always present when driving my car. Sounds like its come from the area of the fuel pressure regulator! Doesn't seem to hurt performance but annoying at any rate!

Would be gratefull for any suggestions.

Thnx, I'll check that out. It may be a Vacuum issue also ?¿ Any more suggestions would be great!

Pretty sure its not the Turbo!! :D
lol

Alternator bearing going bad? Put a piece of hose to your ear and move it around the area the noise seems to be coming from to pinpiont the source.

Hhm, a "Whining" noise you say? I haven't seen my wife all day. You didn't happen to find a 5'5" blue eyed blond, under the hood did you?

Barring that, I second the alternator theory.

:D

how long has the car been making the noise??

perhaps its just the fuel rail making noise---- ive heard odd things when the pump sucks air from the tank, when its low on gasoline--

Brooks- lol your a dog!! ;)

noise

It could be your power steering pump.It is not low on fluid is it?Bruce

I second taking a look at the tensioner. I got a pretty good scare one day when I heard a godawful screech and smoke started pouring out from under hood one day when I started my car to warm it up. Tensioner locked up. Freaked me out pretty good. I couldn't run back to the car fast enough.:p

while you have the belt off, start it up just to double check if it is an accessory making the noise.

Good idea taking the belt off!!!. In my own experience, the idler pully bearing always goes bad first.
Good luck

if you hav ethe powermaster brake set up that could be your culprate.it will make an aweful whineing sound at times, check it out ,pump the pedal a fewtimes aND SEE IF THE FLUID IS TRANSFERING TO THE OTHER SIDE IS AERIATED OR FOAMING.that i what mine was doing the other day.

The Alternator bearing sounds like a good thing to check, mine did the same thing. I replaced my alternator with PepBoys replacement and it went away.

FYI,
Two things were whining on my car recently and they were very obvious.
The serpentine belt and the crank sensor.
I slightly adjusted the crank sensor and replaced the serpentine belt and it's nice and quiet now.:D

noise

When you fix the problem post what was making it.This way if any of us have the same problem we will have an idea what to check.Bruce

my engine is doing the same thing. When i tap the accel i here a chirp. If i light throttle it whines like a turbo whistle. Thought it was a vac leak but it doesnt respond to the usual test of spraying everything down and listening for an RPM change and my rpm is nice and solid. The only thing i can figure is its something inside the plenum whistling by my powerplate. Its annoying but its certainly not hurting performance.

the crank sensor was making a noise? What was doing it? was it out of adjustment or is the ring bent? You should look in to this before you have another problem. If it was rubbing on the firing ring it probably needs replacing. If the firing ring is out of round then it needs replacing or straightening.
Dylan,
When you took the belt off did you find the problem? Turn everything you can with the belt off by hand if you verified that it was a belt driven component causing the noise. Alternator, idler pulley, and water pump should be easily ruled out or found faulty. Just curious as to what you found out.
