White lettering is coming off the coolant overflow cap, and others. Is there a clever way to reapint these letters without running paint down the side of the letters??

Thx, Bob

Put a wet coat of enamel paint on a stiff piece of cardboard. Then lightly press the cap onto the wet paint. Just by touching the paint, then tops of the letters should be the only part that gets paint on it. Might do it twice since it'll be thin.

Yeah...John knows everything doesn't he :)

Thanks....good idea.

Going to IRP Tuesday nights this year?? I'm ready

Bob

Paint

That white paint for the job. Go to EastWood. OK a little pricey. But get

ONE SHOT ENAMEL. Used by pinstripers.

Techinique is a great one. have to write it down.
I would have used a brush....Oh well.........

I had Testors model paint lying around and used a toothpick to apply it.

I just did this to my power steering pump cap. I used one my wifes sponge eyelid makeup applicators, they come several to a package (looks like a Q-tip with a sponge on both ends) Don't use Q-tips they don't work very well. I tried the cardboard trick and it works well on the overflow cap, but not the other caps. The sponge holds the paint and is easy to control. Give it a try, I found light blotting worked best. This is by far the easiest and most desireable method I have used yet....I used House of Color white touch up paint.....Looks like new again.

I have more money than brains so I just bought new parts.
GM part numbers.
PS cap(new style) 25526982
Rad.reservior 15630112
The latest windsheild washer reservior cap is plain with out letters. #3798372. I picked up a couple of mint looking ones at the boneyard. They are used on everything.

Has anyone thought about the lettering on all of the relays? I have some Corvette restorers that replace all of the relays just for that reason.

A couple of other things that come to mind. Replacing the metal fan relay and the metal water control valve too. Old cadium plating is just that, old and not shiny.

Dont forget to detail the engine and trans dip sticks too.

Your point id well taken. As of now I am putting a motor in a white Limited.
Using my 4,506 Org mi. GN as a point of reference.

If you are going that route, I have seen guys paint thins black or aluminum.
Which is OK if that's what you want. I like the stock look .Or for better put.
As close as I can get. Depends on what you are doing I guess......Just my .02 cents

i know this is old, but in case any of you were wondering.. i used a white paint pen. it worked brilliantly. was the most painless job i did on my car, that made a part look 1000% better, that i have ever done. cleaned the 3 caps really good, with eagles foamy tire and wheel cleaner, shot a really thin coat of dupli-colors gloss black lacquer on top of the power steering cap, then painted all three caps' lettering with the paint marker. it took a steady hand, but they came out PERFECT. they look brand new, factory, and only cost me 2 bucks, for the paint pen. if any of you want this done, cuz you may not have a steady hand, send your 3 caps to me, and i can most likely make them look brand new.
