Rick from what I can see it is "Speedway Motors" and I wouldn't think they are an Admin for our site...They are just cluttering it up with free advertising if you ask me...

Here is one of their e-bay items that I clicked on.... Winters 5 on 4-3/4 Grand National Replace Hub Assembly | eBay

The Ebay stuff is fetched automatically by RSS feeds. The forum software pulls the links and posts the stuff up. Its always been this way, just the feature didnt work exactly right with the last version of VB.

It gets posted under the "admin" user account.

Ahhh that makes sense now... So basically e-bay sellers and their adds get Free advertising here while the other vendors have to pay? I just wonder how many people here actually use this and if it be worth keeping?

Its a source of revenue for this site. The URLs get rewritten and the company that offers the service pays us. Sorry to tell you but vendor fees alone will not keep this site afloat. Hosting alone is almost $700 a month.

Thanks Jay, I wasn't aware that the company actually paid you guy's. I know it's not a forum but I run & maintain my whole web site myself and am familiar with the costs and time that these sites require I can only imagine what it takes to run this site.. Thanks for the reply.

Yea.. its pretty expensive. This last upgrade probably cost around $2000 or so and thats without the mobile app which we've just started working on. Really we only have a few choices. I've avoided splattering ads all over the place like Vertical Scope and Internet Brands do because I think it detracts from the site. So I have to find stealthier ways to raise funds. So we can either switch to a cheaper hosting company, which we originally did and people complained, we can add more ads to the site, which will make people complain or we can try to raise money with as few ads as possible. All we're trying to do is cover operating costs. Maybe if people understood that, they would be a little more understanding.

Rest assured that those forums wall to wall in ads are making bank. Back before Vertical Scope bought out Ext-N, we were doing almost $1000 a day from Google alone.

Thats never been the MO here. We try to raise enough to keep the place afloat and people still complain about that. I have a real problem with the entitlement people here seem to have regarding this site. I guess they think the hosting fairy pays all the bills. Nobody wants to donate, nobody wants ads, nobody wants to pay to use the site but they want to complain about everything we try to do to keep the place afloat.

Should have saved the $2,000.

See? Didnt take long for my point to be made. Its so AWESOME spending multiple hours a month working on this site for the GRATEFUL userbase we have here.

On the plus side, Im really enjoying being able to ban people from threads.

I love they guys that don't have a clue what it costs every month to keep this board up... I am not a computer tech, so nothing is "free" around here... I bend over backwards spend 20+hours a week working on this board doing all the things many have no clue even take place... Pronto the $2000 is just a drop in the bucket of the overall budget of this site... I guess you may have felt better if we saved the 2k and the forum got hacked and we lost tons of stuff etc... Mental notes are taken

I think they think this site is running on a TRS-80 you have plugged into your home network.

I don't to appear ungrateful, i appreciatte all the hard work you guys have done!
Is there anyway to turn something off on our user cp so all the ads won't appear when i hit New Posts or do we just live with it. It makes it difficult to me read the new post. But either way--thanks for your time and effort.

I have no idea what youre talking about. I see one ad at the top of the page and its only a place holder until I can get the vendor banners squeezed back in.

Ok, i will be clearer. When i hit the "New Posts" button--there is 5 ebay auction posts to every "new post" that is related to the board and its content.

Shane,

I hope your not pulling that out of your pocket, are you? I mean, the site does make enough to support itself? Right?

You should really consider a donate button bro. Even a few bucks here and there can add up. I think people would like to show appreciation when they get real results.

Something to think about.

The site covers operation costs and some of the upgrade costs but Shane is coming out of pocket for most of it. More ads would solve that but no one wants ads or anything that will make the site money, they just want a free, uncluttered site with no advertising whatsoever. If the Brinks truck ever starts making stops at my house, Ill be the first one to remove all the ads.

isnt that an old tandy computer? I might have a commador pet or maybe a 64 in the basement somewhere.
