I am about to install my new motor and am going to the F Body rad and contemplating ditching the stock oil cooler adapter and SS lines.

Did you notice any change in hot idle oil pressure?

Did you notice any change in engine coolant temps?

I have the PTE Oil Relocator which adds about 1 to 2 quarts of oil and a Preluber which adds 1 or 2 quarts more. I am thinking that the extra 2-4 quarts of oil if probably cooling it down enough for a car that will get 2-3k a year tops with not a lot of long trips.

Thanks for any replies

I'm going to run a B&M #70266 (11x8) with the PTE turbo saver. Along with the deep oil pan that would bring it to about 9 quarts of oil

Thanks for the replies guys, like Hawk Harrelson would say,

He gone! ;)

Cooler

Why do you think they started installing them on the 86--as the 84-85 didn't have them. I hope you don't have an eng. oil temp gage (you will be shocked at how high the oil temp will climb). After installing an external oil cooler and a temp gage, I would never consider running without one. As the temp goes up the pressure goes down.

Not runnng the cooler did not raise my oil temps much. Less than 10 degrees. Regular driving, no road course time or anything. Temp sender is in the pan. Cooling system is very good. Bay area, Ca weather. Driven as much as possible and never babied. Never has seen 220 oil temps.

I dont use one either.
I bought my ttype and found the oil cooler in the trunk.
I later installed it with my biggie oil filter , then my engine went bye-bye
I have to assume, the oil cooler was contaminated..
So now.. i dont run one on either of my TR's

I haven't ran one in 2 years since I switched radiators and went to the front mount intercooler...no problems here...my oil pressure hot with 10w30 synthetic is 15 psi and 40-50 hot cruise and about 80 WOT...I don't think you have to worry about oil temps so much especially with synthetic, and my coolant temps are always between 160-165...I would think the oil can't be much hotter than that...I'm no expert but that's just what I have done...no problems here
